Good morning everyone. With the riding season right around the corner, I just wanted to update what has been going on with this sled for those who helped along the way. I'm dealing with rebuilding the front end after letting a friend of my brothers ride it (he sent it into some train tracks and...
Just an update guys (thanks for the help thus far), we ran out of snow last year. Nothing changed (64 - 66 MPH) top speed). Gonna send my belts, primary clutch, secondary clutch, and a few other parts to Chris (Schmidt Brothers) to have him check it out. I picked up a 19T top gear. Just to see...
So good news and bad news:
Good news I picked up 2 mph running it on the stand.
Bad news the rpm didn't change, the new belt still sits low, and we gave no snow to test... :(
So just to update...
Ordered a brand new belt from Yamaha. Mine had 280 miles on it, I guess it could be shot. Doesn't hurt to have a spare.
Chris (From Schmidt Brothers Motorsports), got me some heavier rivets. Going to install them today. We're still thinking there's a problem with my...
I'm on an 18/41 with a 9 tooth. So just be 100% I need TIP weights 2 grams heavier EACH then what's in there now. Example mine now are 3G of weight in each tip (9g total), I need 5g EACH (15g total) correct? Thanks in advance!
Am I maybe not enough mileage (280 miles on my sled) total to see 80mph?
I understand I need get tip rivets in to bring the rpm down. I am waiting on rivets. I'm just asking what how many miles where on you guys' phazers before you saw 80mph?
That's another issue then. When we install the belt, it is sitting even or a little above. After you run the engine track on the stand a couple rotations, it sinks down. That's why we replaced the secondary spring, thinking it was weak. Seems like the secondary just doesn't have enough force to...
Spoke to another dealer today, who confirmed stock phazer see 79 - 84 mph range. The service tech said my problem is either clutches or ECU. But there is definitely a problem for sure. Just out of curiosity, are you guys' stock belts 8GK? Mine is. Still not sure why with stock clutches it won't...
I wasn't trying to sound disrespectful at all. I love all the parts and the service Chris has provided. I do have his weights (both tip and middle, in a second set of flyweight arms. I had them installed originally. That was when I was seeing 66mph @ ~ 12,060 - 12,130rpm when riding this past...
I was under the assumption that Chris' primary machine and billet helix would net me 8 - 10 mph gain. That's simple not the case on my self thus far. I actually lost 1 mph going to his helix over the stock one with the primary overdrive machine already done. We've tried combo after combo...
Stock helix stock clutching:
96mph @ 12,430 A1
96mph @ 12,420 B1
Schmidt billet helix stock clutch
95mph @ 12,370 A1
95mph @ 12,360 B1
These are on a stand. No load. Not enough snow to test ride tonight. Swapped to another stock secondary spring. No change..
I'm 240 with gear. Track is a free ride 136" with 1.5" lugs. I'm seeing 66 on the speedo at 12k when riding, 95 mph free revving it on a stand. Putting all stock clutch setup back in the sled now, along with swapping out the secondary spring for another stock piece. Will update shortly..
