2 digit. Google yamaha vector fault code list.
Yes, either it's binding, not adjusted correctly or the bearing on the speedo sensor is shot. That will set tors off also
There's a fault code flashing, or solid showing along with that red light. The red light doesn't come on by itself without a code. Find the code and report back or look it up yourself.
I'll almost bet it's code 84, TORS.
Start with a fresh set of plugs. Sounds like one or more is wet and/or carbon fouled. That's the sooty, rich exhaust smoke.
Have you been starting it and shutting it off before it gets up to operating temp??
What is/are you calling a low idle? 1550-ish is what they are supposed to idle at.
How many miles are on it?
Has it always done this, or something new?
Yes. I personally know the couple I bought them from, and neither sled was ever messed with. Only thing I've done is the soft start springs.
Again, it's gotta be fuel/air delivery the way i can get it to stutter/chop if I hold it at that certain throttle position and then with very little imput...
I did do that, forgot to add that to my diary, lol.
It's seems to climb steady and smooth, although maybe a bit more rapidly compared to the other one? Especially between 16 and 40.
I'll compare again and try to duplicate each one as close as possible...
@74Nitro do you possibly know if...
I've got two identical 2011 Apex's, both with nearly identical mileage (within 10 miles of each other ) and the one just isn't smooth off idle. Both bone stock other than soft start primary springs. It's not in the clutching.
When I apply easy throttle like moving outa the garage, load/unload...
Pull the parking brake, caliper , & rotor off and carefully and slowly drive it see if the noise is present.
I had the same clunk clunk noise at slow speed on my 08 vector. Drove me nuts tracking it down. Turned out to be a combination the keyway on rotor & woodruff key had worn enough to...
@earthling.... am I wrong in any way? I certainly don't think so. You said it yourself, he's a mouthpiece. Nothing more. Hopefully there's another place for him within Yamaha Corp., nobody deserves to lose his/her job because of corporate decisions.
And don't accuse me of making this...
He's a damn puppet. No difference between him and a politician's press secretary. Talks in general circles, vague, mixes is a few big, "sophisticated" words to sound important, & attempts to tell everyone what they want to hear from a script.
But in the end we all just blankly stare at each...
Looking for a starting point advise for anyone who has/had the Star kit on their Apex.
I installed the kit WITH the Doo stiffer center spring. Question is, how much preload to put on it?
I'm gonna go with quite alot, like little to no threads left showing and can always easily loosen it...
