does anyone know the duration on the apex exhaust cam compare to the rx1? I have the lift data, but not the duration??

thats just the valve lift, got the yamaha manual but the duration is not there:(

I have all the lift and durations of Apex and Rx1 cams. The issue is at what valve lash and what lift are you looking for the numbers. The lash adjustment has a LARGE effect on duration as well as the checking height your using. That being said. the exhaust at .009 lash at .001 lift is 288 degree's, and the intake at .007 lash .001 lift is 292. Now same lash at .040 lift, which is what most motocycle guys use, Exhaust is 251 degree's and the intake is 247 degree's.
The RX1 cams at .040 lift Exhaust 237 degree's and the Intake at .040 is 232 degree's. :flag:

I sell a checking fixture if you would like to check and play with cam timing yourself. See my web site for details.

Hey TT - can you post those cam values? I have been searching the site and its all over the place, some saying they are the same, some saying they are the R1 cams, etc but nice to clear it up and make it a sticky. Also what is the duration at .050? Thanks a lot!!!

Exhaust 231 Deg .307Lift 102 Centerline

Apex Intake 240 Deg .310 Lift 111 Centerline

Don't know if R1 Cams are the same as either RX1 or Apex

R1 cams may have the same specs as one of those, but I am pretty sure they use a different firing order....

In order to use an actual R1 cam in the Apex motor you have to reverse the plug wiring where #1 would be the oil tank side and #4 would be clutch side.

It's funny the firing order comes up. I believe Yamaha numbered the cylinders, for lack of a better word, Wrong. Number 1 is actually the mag side cylinder if you want to get technical. Here's why I say this. When you install cams your really placing what Yamaha numbered 4 as the TDC cylinder, and a Apex with the cam posistion sensor, triggers the ECU when #4 cylinder is coming up to TDC. On all cars I've seen, the cam posistion sensor always tells the ECU when #1 cylinder is coming up on TDC Compression. The ECU has to know where to fire the injectors, as well as cylinders, on Full Sequential injection systems like Apex's have. So, I believe number 1 is actually #4 , #2 is #3. The actual firing order remains the same 1243 either way. Hope I didn't loose too many of you with this but thats the way I set up my Electromotive fuel injection and ignition system on my race Apex so I'm sure it works that way.
That brings me to the issue of cams. R1's in 2003 use the same cams as RX1's They changed the cams in later years. I'm out to find out what the spec's are on the 2005 and 2006 R1 to see if they would make better turbo cams for us. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting. R1's as of 2008 and maybe 2007, use 4 vavle heads so those cams obviously won't work.

maybe the ex cam may fit form the 07-08? thats the most interesting one also..

mayby you have som good ign setup for me, i'm puting on a ems on my rx1? got a 20 by 14 map to set.

any help would be great..

The cam sensor cut out/location on an R1 cam is 180 degrees off compared to the Apex stock cams so you have to reverse the spark plug wiring to change it to being #1 over on the oil tank side.

Thanks TT!

Looks like a regrind on the intake of .332 lift, 243 duration @ 0.05 would make for nice upgrade. Also looks like the apex exhaust cam is a upgrade for the RX1.

Are all these values measured by you or did you find them specs? Thanks again this site rules!
