handle bar reverse mod

well today i finished the handle bar reverse unit for my apex mountain only took about 5 hours of playing around with little metal parts.
I'll be making a few units for sale if any one wants them but it wont be for a few months yet.
After testing today the unit worked well, just flick the old hand brake lever and the sled goes into reverse sound beep and all!
Heres a few shots of the kit.
cheers,
niko.

Niko, nice job but I have to ask... is there something wrong with the stock reverse lever? I have not had a problem with mine or ever noticed it being in the way.

Only real reason i started this project was cause i didnt have reverse when i first got my sled, once i put the kit in there was no hole in the side panel.
I didnt want to cut a hole in the plastic and have a crappy hole down there.
Also the stock handle is a heavy piece and im trying to lighten up the apex as much as possible plus its nice having the controls right at your hands.
Cheers for asking,
niko.

Thats the way my old storm goes into reverse.
So did you take the e-brake parts off the sled to save weight also?

I finished my ebrake lever reverse kit and I have to say it wasnt easy. It works great, but I am a bit worried about the longevity of the cable. I think it is severely under sized for this application. I ordered another stock cable just to have around as a spare. When I bought my sled I was told the reverse linkage was in the way of the turbo and had to go. But I use a sled deck in the early winter and the late spring and you have to have reverse with these heavy pigs....

i have a much lighter mod like this on my sled. i left the stock brake leaver and added another one.
you dont need all the leaver and pivot crap on the top, just go directly to the leaver on the bottom, if your in it for weight
i did mine because i wanted a place for my choke leaver and i had a reverse kit with no actuator.

Thats a great little conversion with way less parts, my only problem is that ive got a 06 apex mountain and the radiator is in the way to mod it that way plus sound switch would be a prob to mount.
As for the cable braking if it happens i'll change it to a heavier one,may be use a auto trans version.
cheers ,
niko.

if there is room for the shift rod to go down there is room for the cable. this extends now further out in either direction than the stock rod. for the cable i used a rx1 ebrake cable so you have all the cable right there to do it.
i added a leaver because i have a dimmer on my brake leaver. if i didnt want to keep the dimmer i would have just used the park leaver that was there. my cable has lasted for 2000ish miles and shows no chaffing.

i would guess 3-4lbs, i dont think it is worth it if your just trying to loose weight but im not a mountain guy, i did it because it is expected of me to be weird.
