My lower Ball Joints are shot, what is the trick to getting them out. I have removed the clip. What type of a puller do I need to get these out. I have one side moved it is now flush with the lower arm metal but cannot get my puller to attach to anything to pull it any further.
Can I gently tap this out with a hammer? How to then install new one?

I can post some pictures of the puller I made when I get home from work. Very basic, but it worked just fine.
I used a large c-clamp to re-install the new ones.

Great I will look for your post this evening. Have you milled the upper ball spindle by 2.5mm? Sounds like a good thing to do to my 08'.

My dealer has warrantied 3 sets of these. Take it in and let them do it for free. But you can put a peice of wood under the arm then tap it out with a large socket the rest of the way and tap the new one in the same. Kind of crude, but effective.

Here you go. The shaft was 3/8-16 I believe and it's about 3.5" long. The aluminum plate measure 3"x2". I used a couple nuts & various washers.
You will need a large socket (or anything with a larger diameter than the balljoint) - I used an old jackshaft bearing.
Rest the bearing/socket under the a-arm, and the aluminum plate under the bearing/socket, thread the rod through, and place washers & nuts on either side. Once you have everything lined up - start tightening. It will start to work its way down without too much effort.
On re-install - I used a socket the same size as the lower balljoints outer race and a large c-clamp to pull it in. Worked slick.
Yes - I machined the upper balljoint by 2.5mm, with good results.
Take a look at your a-arm bushings as well as they are probably all hammered out. I made my own out of oilite bronze. If you do a search on oilite, you should find a post of mine with all the dimensions.
good luck

I got some wood, a piece of pipe, and a socket and pressed it out with my vise. I tried to beat on it with a dead blow hammer but I was just wasting my time!

Been waiting to get mine replaced at the dealership for a while now, was told yesterday that they are waiting for a special tool from Yamaha to remove and reinstall these properly ? Anyone know if this is correct, or just BS ?

I'd say it's a lack of imagination. I did this extraction in my garage with a nut, bolt, washers and a large socket (as in socket wrench). This works on the same principle as the assembly in the picture above.
It ain't rocket surgery.

Yeah, I know I could do it myself for sure, but my sled needs warranty work besides the balljoints being replaced, figured I'd get it all done in one trip being my dealer is almost 100 miles away....

I contacted my dealer today and they said they spoke with Yamaha yesterday and the updated parts are NOT yet available.
For those of you getting the warranty work done, are they just putting on a new one of the same design?

Anything could work, it doesn't need to be a special tool. Just make sure when you are putting the new ones in that you don't push on the inner (ball), the outer race should be the only thing you push against, just like you would a bearing.
