Well I'm finally getting around to posting my mods on my Nytro. I finally feel like I have the sled that wanted when I bought my Nytro.

The first mod and the one I don't have pictures of was the sway bar delete and the addition of Fox float 2 to the front end. Road the sled last year with this mod and loved it.

The other mod without pictures is the re-enforcment of my subframe. This has been covered to death so I don't need to rehash it.

The next mod was the snow scoop of a tunnel the nytro came with. Here is a picture of the finished tunnel. I added snow eliminators and chopped the tunnel down in the back. I also milled up a cool bumper and relocated the snow flap up.

The under tunnel exhaust came next. It's all stainless steel tubing and the muffler is carbon fiber. What you can't see it the silencer in the end of the pipe. I milled a piece of aluminum to reduce down to the inner pipe that is about 5 inces long. I was able to increase my CO settings to 4. It's deffinelty loader but not that bad. The response and power are definetly there.

Also you can kind of make out the plate I made to cover the stock exhaust hole in the tunnel. Bascially a trimmed up sheet of aluminum rivited in from the bottom. This way I didn't have to deal with the lip issue durring fabrication. This made a nice spot under the seat for a storage trunk. I added a top piece and a rear door complete with a DZUS fitting. Simple and turned out great. Oh and it does open furthure than the picture shows.

Next I went after the steering columb. I found a kit online to angle it forward six degrees but hey I have a CNC mill so I'll just make my own and save a few bucks. Sorry I don't have good pictures of it but it consits of two brackets one at the top and one at the bottom both with oil impregnated brass bushings to replace the factory plastic ones. So far I like the new position as I am tall and almost always ride standing.

In addition I installed the Mountain Tamer suspension. This is simply a must have if you own a Nytro. I can't say enough good things about the product. While I was there I cut down the axel and the spacers to make my two wheel conversion. Lastly was the Power Claw track.

I took a test ride this last weekend. Not alot of snow but it was more of a tuning day. So far everthing works as hoped. The sled rode great, I have no problem lifting the front end when I want to. More power and more power to the snow. Oh and the weight loss is SO NICE.

This should be it for this year. Maybe next year I'll be able to boost it. For now this will have to do. Have a great season all. [/url]

Looks good!! My buddy has an 08 that we need to mod the tunnel... I just picked up a 010 NytroMTX and cant wait to ride!!

A "DOO" friend of mine was questioning the Timbersled for my Nytro (As that is the next biggie purchase ..) thinking that too much weight off the back was gona make the front feel that much heavier ..... out of balance type of thing. ( he obviously has not dug me out enough to make that unreasonable comment)

Tell me your thoughts so that I can set him straight .... and then install mine and kick his yellow @ss all over the place!

Got the new Powerclaw in, and I've been wanting to go Floats minus the sway bar too ...... I need to get the girl pregnant so that in 9 months I can afford the price of Floats up here ..... (first born!)

Any deals on Fox Floats out there fellas? I'd hate to have to trade off the little gaffer ......

i really like what you did to the tunnel. what did you
use to finish off the edge?

I like the trunk as well.

Pretty common complaint from Doo folks...they will then have no complaints about the Yammie :) Tell your buddy to put his Rev or XP on the scals and see where the weight blanance is...hint...it is forward...

Next if you want to get that factory balance back...

Do the MOuntain tamer, Then drop the battery to a lighter weight battery up front, and that will drop around 10 lbs. So now you ahve the balance back, as the back end is about half the weight of the front end....still want more off the front end, go to BarkBuster (Timbersled) front suspencion, and shed another 8 lbs. Still want more....it is there to have...just do some searches for Nytro Diet...

The other guy already did the Sway bar= couple pounds...

I am at roughly 100+ lbs. off my Nytro...love letting others ride it to see the weight difference, most get off and are wowed with the boost, but then immediately complain about the weight...head back home put both on scales, and mine is lighter than theirs :) purely PRICELESS!!!!

The Timbersled suspension just works better - the weight loss is just an added bonus. Go to their site and watch the video, it explains it better than I could. Two big clues are the huge amount of sag in the stock suspension and the fact that I went through my hyfaxes in 700 miles. I know their are ways to fix these issues but the Timbersled is the total package. As far as the weight issue goes. I would not even consider not dropping the weight out of the back end. The stock Nytro trenches so bad that my riding buddies got to the point they threated me to stay on the trail as they were so tired of digging me out. As far as balance goes well those donuts I had this morning ought to fix that.

The trim on the tunnel is called J-Cap. It's used for trimming glass and can be found online. The gap is 1/16th and worked out really nice. Here is a link for the stuff I used.

Here is a link to where I got my Floats. At the time they had the best price around, free shipping, and as a bonus the guy I delt with really new his stuff. He recommended a differnt model then I was initially looking at. As I remember they are like a 1/2 inch longer then the recommended replacement. He knows more then me about these things so I went with his recommendation. Wihtout the sway bar I do have to run them at a bit higher pressure to keep it from feeling mushy on the trail. But in the pow pow and on the hill side this mod is golden. I can't remember the guys name but he should not be hard to find.

DJ do you know the length of the shock that you ordered?

I don't sorry, I can't see the part number without taking off the shock either. Call the guys I mentioned and talk to them. They will get you what you need. If all else fails let me know and when I get some time I'll find a part number. FYI however I think they had to get different bushing then normally come with this shock. I remember something about that anyway. Again that is why I called these guys they know their stuff or at least more than me.

Sounds good i will maybe have to give them a call. Only reason why i asked is i know someone at cat that rebuilds them.

A comparativley (sp?) spec'd Doo 1200 vs a Nytro is generally ~15# less (Doo is lighter)..
Think thats what it turned out to be.

Thats manuf weights, and not 2010s...

The '10 Nytro doesn't have a weight on Yamaha's website last i Looked. So I believe I was comparing the 09s.

So I finally got to ride out the new mods and I was pleased with everything but the steering relocate. The six degrees shift up was just too much. It was great climbing but I hated boondocking with it. So I spent the evening redesigning it. I modified the lower bracket to a 4 degree shift instead of the 6 degrees. Then designed a completely different upper setup. Sorry I didn't snap any pictures of it yet. Frankly it was nothing pretty to look at anyway. Basically I took the stock plastic mount and drilled a new hole about half way up the frame. This became the new bottom hole for the stock bracket. Then I added an 1/8 thick piece of stainless flat bar to each side and bolted all three holes to it. There is more to it than that but I'll get a picture so it will make sense before explaining more. It's plenty strong and the position feels more comfortable. We'll see how it rides out. If this fails I'll be putting things back to stock and exploring pivoting risers.
