I have an 04 RX1 that worn't turn over. I put a new battery in it last year and this year it was junk so I just put another new battery in it and when you turn the key nothing. What could be wrong

Well it's obviously not your battery. This may sound dumb but is the kill switch in the up position. From there check your battery to see if its charged if it is check your fuses.

You may want to go over the basics before people start making further suggestions i.e. are you getting fuel to the carbs, spark, fuses, pull plugs are they wet, flooding, etc...

how long have you tried cranking it for? 10 sec? 20 sec?... i found with mine about a month ago when i fired it up i had to try cranking it for close 45-60 sec before i got it to sputter and finally she started up. And this is even with a full tank of gas and fuel stabilizer added before spring came around earlier this year. I realize you run the risk of burning out the starter solenoid (assuming its like a car starter) but sometimes they want to be difficult to start up when sitting for a while.

from what your describing its likely the 10 amp ignition fuse. its located above the chaincase in a black box. these are "mini" fuses, not regular size. if a sled has been sitting for long or the carbs were removed, you can fill them easily before cranking the battery and starter to death. remove fuel lines from bottom of fuel pump and use a small funnel in each line to fill the float bowls. each line feeds 2 carbs and may take a few minutes to work out the air as you will see it bubble back into the funnel. when done reconnect the fuel lines and sled is ready to fire.

I had a similar issue last year after riding in lots of powder. The starter relay would get hung up due to the moisture. A blow comb to the relay fixed it. Then I sealed the harness in silicone and haven't had the problem since. The relay is next to the battery, actually on the battery rack itself. Follow the wires from the battery and you'll see.

Did you try jumping across the solenoid to see if it would crank ? Then check for a signal from Ignition to solenoid control wire.

Starter relay solenoid is bad...

Starter relay solenoid is bad... Just went through this yesterday with mine.. And if your dealer does not stock the one for your sled, the ATV solenoid starting in 4SV- part number works as well. Just need to use the rubber boot off your old one and put in backwards as the poles are on different sides... $58....

Wait a minute, ... If the sled shows no indication of any power, it could very well be the main fuse. So, before we get diverted to the relay, I would like to hear about the state of the Main Fuse.

Also, he has not indicated that his sled is wet and frozen. So, I am not thinking the relay is frozen. He has not even gotten the sled started yet.

There is no power to crank it. So how is he going to crank it for a longer period of time to fill the carbs. Who said he even drained them?

Please do not get me wrong. I am not trying to irk anyone. We just need to read a bit and narrow down our suggestions based on the information we are given. I know we all are trying to help. But, when you sit back and read this, it gets a little confusing.

Anyway, ...RX1Main, How are you coming along on checking the Main Fuse? Have you found it yet. On my '04, mine is under the Airbox, down close to the Battery Jumper cables. You may want to consider inspecting all the fuses in the other fuse block located above the chain-case.

Another way of testing the Main Fuse would be to go to the fuse block on top of the chain-case and look for 12 VDC at the two fuses with the red wires leading to them.

This is why I suggested jumping across the relay, if it started cranking the battery, cables and starter could be ruled out (bypassing fuses etc) then he could check for a signal from the ignition switch and check back thru fuses.
:rocks: :yam: :rocks:

I'm quite certain that I know what the problem is. It's your suspension. You should take out the M-10 and remove the Ohlins from the front, then give them to your son. After that, just stick with the RTX and you won't have any more problems with the RX-1.

It's worth a try! :-o
