sled running lean?

How can u tell if its running lean and is it bad for motor ?

if it is lean, it heats up more and the spark plugs look greyish white when you check them. 4 stroke can take it longer but still not a good thing.

Thanks for the info , reason im asking is i installed a can and dealer told me all would be good but im hearing a popping and crackle noise at 6000 rpm and was told its probably running lean
