Crappy Yamaha GYTR Rear Bumper Fix? Please Help!

Hello,

Has anyone else had issues with the tabs that secure the mud/snow flap on your Phazer GYTR rear bumper cracking from the vibration? I have already had the tabs welded once but I cannot see that thin piece of aluminum ever holding up. Please help! Does anyone have a good fix? I can't believe that Yamaha could have tested this bumper for more than 5 miles without the tabs cracking off! Can you say design flaw? But that is just my opinion. I'll try to attach some pictures.

Yammie likes to charge an arm and leg for these "top of the shelf" GYTR parts too... I can't believe that this bumper is $150+... Did you get any "snow throw" from the open area behind the exhaust??/

I have my rear tunnel hole closed... and obviously, I had the snow/mud flap off while I was removing the rear bumper. I'm not sure what you mean by "snow throw", but I'm assuming you mean snow thrown through the holes in the side of the bumper? I got some thrown through and was thinking of closing them off, but never got that far.

The only reason I even have the bumper is because one of my riding buddies hit me in the back and bent my stock bumper. I bought the GYTR because it was actually cheaper than the stock bumper. Although, I have heard of people having problems with the mounting brackets on the stocker too.

I got one off of ebay that had the mount broke off - i'm using it for my 136 extension.

Wooly - Good to see you back around.....

As far as the "snow throw".... It looked like gytr bumper did not use the stock snow deflector attached to the bumper... thus leaving a gap b/w the snow flap and end of tunnel. I fugured this would be an issue.

The GYTR bumper uses the same piece of metal from the end of the tunnel down to the bumper. So, to answer your question... No, there is no more snow coming out the back of the machine than with the stock bumper. I'm going to go look for some 1/4" thick by 1/2" wide flat aluminum stock tomorrow to fab up some new tabs. Once I'm done, I'll hit up my buddy to have one of his welders zap them on... that should solve the problem! Sucks, cuz I'm gonna have to trim the top corners of the snow/mud flap so it will fit with the fatter tabs and it probably will not look the best but it WILL BE SOLID!
