Kill switch broke .. repair ???

Tipped the sled (06 Apex RTX) over last night on the ice. And it snaped the red kill switch/button off at the base of the button.

Does anyone know if just the red button can be replaced? Or does the entire switch need to be replaced?
I did not have time to take it apart last night. But it looks like the red button just slides in the white part of the switch. ???

Has this happened to anyone? What would the problems be if I did not fix it? Just use the key ???
 
If it is like ANY OTHER sled that Yamaha has ever built you'll have to buy that whole "assembly." If you don't fix it, no way to kill in an emergency - like a froze throttle cable. I had a sled that got some water in the cable lines and froze, started it up gave it the gas and I was WOT hanging on for dear life like superman, thank God for a kill switch.
 
Snapped mine off too. I was able to take the assembly apart, glue the post back together and put a small screw in from the top into the post to help hold it as well. It was a PITA, but otherwise the assembly was like $150.
 
Yes if you want to replace with OEM you will have to buy the whole control. Do a search as I remember someone on here last year that made some out of Aluminum. They were Anodized red so it didn't look that different. Actually a nice piece. Don't know if that was a limited build or not but he/she may still have some left. Otherwise check classifieds for the control. You may get lucky and find one.
 
If you get a used one off an older sled (RX1) you can take the "assembly" apart and replace just the switch. Been there. No reason that part couldn't be made available seperately.

What about turning the key OFF ??? That would stop the sled ?! At least until parts come in.
 
Try reaching for the key while trying to control a sled handing on for dear life in a subdivision at WOT - it wasn't funny...
 
I did the same, did as beerman did, drill small hole through the top piece, made a little countersink with a bigger bit, used small pointed screw with flat head, a little glue and it works well
 
Found the switch in the clasified section $45. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will see if I can repair the old one for a spare.

By the way how did you guys get the switch back on with the button broke off?
 
You have to either use some needle nose pliers and grab at the broken section. Or take the assembly apart and just place it in the up position before reassembly. If I remember correctly you have to have it up or down to remove the button. I know it won't come off in either position, it has to be in one or the other. You'll see once you get it apart.
 
a buddie of mine was backing up his RTX and standing on it when the sled moved he went forward onto the throttle... i am laughing right now as i type because i can still see it, and he went WOT backwards into the motel door hehe and his right hand broke of his kill switch, he had just bought the sled so he took it back to the dealer and told them that he lifted it up to start the sled and it broke... he got a new swich hehe i can still see the look on his face

ILMAO, oh... too bad you didn't have a camera handy.
 
yamaha does have a part number for just the button. we usually have to call RTA at Yamaha to get it though but not most people know this.
 
go to your have them call there RTA and they will send them the part to fix your kill switch I ran into a yamaha service rep to do the above
