Here are some pictures of a project I and my slave helper Hugh built this fall. We started with a friends 03 RX1 silver edition with M10 and 05 seat.
Hugh removed all the parts from the sled out back while I watched and drank coffee. He must have drilled a thousand rivets. All brackets, braces, and heat exchangers were changed out for this change over.
I am using the original 144 tunnel from the doner sled so I had Hugh butcher up the back of another tunnel so we could add it to the rear of the RX1. 15 inches is the extra legth of everything.

I had Hugh strip my old venture at the same time. He has been great help. There was about 20 reinforcements under a venture that needed to be added to the Rx. A few hundred rivets later and the tunnel was hooked on with all the reinforcements.
The RX1 exhaust is way different and I had to make the tubes longer and angled different at the muffler. The tunnel protectors are lengthened as well.

We went for the stock look as I have in the past so we used the original RS Venture coul and removed the RS and replaced it with a recut rx decal. Looks stock.
We used all seat, track and suspension. The exhaust covers, RX decals, long spindles and 12grand tach are the only tell tale signs that this is not your grandmas old slow venture, Its a SUPERVENTURE

Looks great, good job, I'd be a little concern on the lenght of the exhaust pipes make sure to support them midway, they might tend to SAG and damage your headers, this is what happend to a '05 RX1 and we had to replace the headers due to SAG, my dealer said that he did 3 last year, on my '08 APEX they added a extra support right at the header and exhaust connection...here's a pic.

Very cool and very nice job Scott,
I'll be interested to hear your opinion if there is any chassis or track harmonics?
Let me know if there is a track howl or any noticeable clutch weight wear problems throughout the season.
What skis are you going to run?
Nice work!

This sled is running the stock skis, I will be running Arrows on most everything till I find something better. Simmons when I want to go off trailing in the powder.
Thanks for the heads up on the pipe sag, I was going to tell him to keep an eye on it. I want it back in the middle of the season some time to try it out and check it over. I may make an add on clamp for it like you show in the picture just to make sure.
I have added a 11mm sway bar to this and long links. May have to later add stiffer front springs.
Not sure how much he will ride the sled though.
he has fixed his clutch rattle with the update kit as much as you can fix an 03, they still will rattle in the gear case a bit.
I would guess it will howl, it is a ripsaw and they are noisy if the trail is hard, deep lug issue I would guess. Im running a 1in ice attack on my venture this year so it should be quieter.

here is a bump for someone who was interested
So how does this sled perform, is there another thread about it?
just this thread, i never got to ride it myself. I have talked to oscar many times and he loves the sled. it lost some speed, though we did not gear the sled down. I was on a budget. sled should have had a 22 or 21 top gear. I dont think its anywhere near pulling the 24 with that track. he gets good milage and it rides great.
I have another picture of it with the decals done but cant find them.

great job
hey man great job and dedication, i plan on doin the same thing this summer because i'm tired of paying 10-11 g's and having stupid problems and trading them in the next season having the dealers look at me with a straight face saying its only worth about $4500
.then stop in next week for some accesories only to see it on the lot for $7000 and have a saleperson tell you that their not making any money on it. they all must be great poker players

Sweet!! I want one! I wish Yami would build one! 7 years later and they still have not figured out that it would sell!

Yamaha doesn't build the sleds people want, they build what they want and then ask, do you want to buy it?
