I have a Star Suspensions 128" relocate kit for my 2008 RTX but can't decided on a track. I ride mostly trails and don't stud my tracks. I've been looking at the Ice Rippers and see some listed as fully clipped and others clipped every 3rd window (same part number, 9078H). I'm assuming the every 3rd clipped track is an older version and the fully clipped may be a better option. I like the idea of a prestudded track especially for the occasional icy hill or corner. I've read a few reviews but find mixed results. There are reports about added hyfax wear and track durability but others say it's the best track available for the trail. Any thoughts? Is there something else I should be considering?

I am very happy with my Cobra track but my next track would be the 1.22 prestudded Ice Attack XT or a 1.5 Ripsaw.

Grizz, I am going 136 this year from 128. I have a 128" Cobra track that works great on-off trail,is in excellent shape, and I would sell for a reasonable price.

Thanks, If I'm doing this I think I'll spend the extra for new. I'm also leaning toward a prestudded track. I found an Ice Attack XT, fully clipped with 1.22" lugs for just over $600 shipped. Anyone know the differences between the Ice Ripper and Ice Attack tracks. I've had a few people tell me to go with the Ice Attack but with no explanation why.

Xrrider, did you extend your rails or do the skid relocate for the 128" ?

Grizz...I sure hope you are going to post up the install pics ;)!

Shaddow 44, I did the 128 Star Suspension relocate last year and it was not that tough, the hardest part was when I took off the gears in the gear box and promptly dropped it on the floor, scattering all the pieces!! I used Ulmers disassembly step by step to take it apart and reassembly. Its in the Sticky notes. The suspension is remove, drill new holes, rivet and replace suspension.

Only 2 rides on it last year, so hopefully I can put out a better writeup this next year.

Which track did you install? I'm ordering something today so I can get this skid relocate done and right now I'm leaning toward the Ice Attack.

Why don't check out what Hudon's will have for tracks at the Big East Snowmobile show next weekend in Syracuse. They usually have some great deals, picked up a Cobra track from them one year fairly cheap.

I'll be in Toledo, Ohio that weekend so I can't make the show. I was planning on going to look for a track and pick up the leading edge option for my Curve skis but the wife had other plans for me.

I just ordered an Ice Attack XT for $617 shipped.

i am very interested in this kit for next year and going to 144 with my rain ext i already have. I also hope to see pictures and a ride report. I think this and a skinz frt end will make the ulitmate sled for me... Then i never need to get another one again... :drink:

The kit for the RTX was $130 plus $15 shipping. My new track will be here tomorrow so I'll be starting on the install this weekend.

I completed the Star Suspension 128" skid relocate on my 2008 RTX. Installing the kit is fairly simple. The kit comes with 6 plates and your choice of fasteners, mutigrip rivets or machine screws and nuts. I like the looks of the rivets but if you don't have a good rivet gun you would probably want to use the screws. Most of my time was spent on actually the track replacement rather than installing the relocate plates. I decided to go with the 128" Ice Attack which will be the first studded (pre-studded) track I've ever ran on any of my sleds. I'm not sure how much of a problem the plate I added to the bottom of the tunnel protectors to reduce icing would have been with a pre-studded track but I didn't want to take any chances so I moved it up.

I'm hoping to get better trail performance with this setup although my previous setup wasn't all that bad. The first thing I've noticed after the install is that the rear suspension seems stiffer and has less travel however, when the rear suspension is collapsed it returns to it's previous height which it never did before. I've had all my shocks revalved by Pioneer Performance and I'm running the Hygear torsion spring bushings. I was told by Robert at Star that I may need to install a stiffer front spring with this setup. I've been running the front spring with very little preload so I figure I start with it loose and added preload if needed. Hopefully the setup is close and I don't have to spend to much time trying to get it right.

More to come once I get it out on the snow.
