Curious id anyone ran their MTX with out the stock headlight last year? Might be a decent way to drop a little weight and add airflow?????

did it on my rev, planning on doing it on this...

i did it. had a upolestry shop make me a "bra" the headlight opening was covered with pet screen. If i remember it cost me like $250.. ouch..

This year i will hopefully be getting a BR Tech hood.

I love wasting money..haha

funny I did mine for the cost of the pet screen and one stick of hot glue and hte $12.95 lights at WallyWorld...(clearly sled is dirty, someone wanted a pic a while back of what it looked like)

give me $200 and I will set you up, and will throw in all the leftover pet screen from the last sled :P

that was the idea but with the Nytro hood shape it's hard to get a clean look. mine looks more like a car bra and it snaps into place. i'll try to find pics

Here's what I've done. Increases airflow across mid mt turbo (B/D), less weight (didn't weigh to measure the diff), it works very well for me. I went to Home Depot and purchased the plastic mesh and zipty'd it to the hood, the headlight is a Trail Tech with a spot beam (don't get the flood beam it doesn't shoot down the road far enough, I tried one).

hmm that and then the pet screen over it may work..but just like that will let way too much snow in for my liking. in our CO style snow...
maybe i'll try to just get the pet screen to fill the hole...from the outside...

figure thats the best way to keep it from "sitting" in the hole on deeeep days.

Rotax,

Your avatar is what prompted me to try this. It looks cool without it, drops weight and hopefully ad's a little a cool airflow. Any ideas at what point I need to worry about a fuel controller. I'm running an under tunnel sportbike muffler. I assume it's not as easy as reading the plugs on a 2 smoke.

get the "no-climb" pet screen as it is a little tougher...have not had any issues with snow getting in the engine compartment...had issues with that in my Rev and the MPEM...

Air / Fuel gauge for reading 4s.

I've heard/read some guys saying w/ just muffler mods they could use a fuel remap / adjustment to clean it up a bit.

I plan to mount a Walmart cheapo fog light...somewhere. :P Probably on top of the instrument plastics.. Just something for visability in poor conditions, and for the 'just in case' i come in after dark rides.
Probably would be able to get by with it for a night trail ride, even tho its been a long time since I've done that.

The screen I used is 1/4", it is tougher than the pet screen. I've used the pet screen to repair/build lightweight hoods. IMO, the pet screen lets very little air flow through and plugs easily. My main goal was to get greater air flow across the intercooler and push the hot air generated from the mid-mount turbo out from under the tank. I even wired my fan to run all the time, actually it is run through the key switch. Although I didn't have this mod done on really deep powder days I did ride in two foot powder days and had no issues with snow ingestion. The whole roll was only $10.00 and you had lots left over.

completed

i hand sewed dog proof screen on each side of the aluminum mesh.

granted its not the 'forced' air i'm after, its the "rising" air i want to get rid of...when stopped, or banging through the pow, i think air will at least have a place to ESCAPE with this setup..thats my main goal when venting. Allowing an escape route for air instead of it just sitting inside with no place to go.

Will be running no windshield, since the stock one did nothing for me really anyway. Aside from throw the snow right into my chest...and into my lap...and built a big pile between my legs. lol

Man...let it snow...
