Just wondering whats going to happen to the industry in the 2012 model year, the final phase of the EPA standards are coming into play. From what I've read so far in some of the rags, that allot of the 2 strokes will not pass. I wonder how the other manufacturers will adapt.

Cat is screwed a lot will have to change for them on 2s side 4s ok. Doo Etek, ACE 4s, Yam all 4s no problem meeting 2012 EPA requirements. Poo 4s ok too just can't keep 800s 2s engines from burning down stay away from Poo CFIs just not right yet. Keep your eye on Cat going to manufacture new engines in MN so must have some injected 2s tech that meets 2012 EPA requirements.

Cat isn't in as bad a shape as you think. They have a patent on the pipe sensor technology and with that technology their 800 HO passes EPA 2012.

Don't forget the 4 stroke credits that AC and Yam have from the past 7 years that can be put towards there 2 stroke engines to help them pass the 2012 EPA.As well as Doo but they have alot of 4 strokes to sell still before there credits will help there 2 stroke in 2012 and beyond hence there DI technology.

I recall reading that the etek was not 2012 epa compliant. Also remember reading the cat was in dire straits with polaris over there 2 strokers. I guess time will tell. I could totally see some kind of exhaust technology coming into play to help clean up the oil burners. But at what cost.

Read in new SnowTech that Catalytic Convertors will inevitably be coming into play on snowmbiles, not sure if that is for 2012 though.

Catalytic Convertors not necessary for 4s sleds & etek supposed to be cleaner than 2011 4s. Nothing changing for Yam & Doo for EPA 2012 but Cat & Poo need to clean up 2s engines as past credits will only carry them so far.
Catalytic Convertors necessary for Jan 1 2011 EPA for all I/Os & Inboards. 2s & 4s injected outboards AOK for boating 2011 EPA requirements. Outboards may make big come back in 2011 as Catalytic Convertors not easy for I/Os & cost a lot. Inboard ski boat market don't care already paying near $100K for wakeboard boats with all options. Boat engines will be changing ASAP & most compaines trying to ship as many non Catalytic Convertors 2011 boats as possible. Keep an eye on all boats engines EPA for 2011 & tech will eventually trickle down to sleds.

The EPA rules are nothing compared to the current Euro3 rules and the 2013 Euro4 rules for streetbikes. As long as this does not change the two strokers will still be around.

If sleds are going to end up with catalytic converters down the road, we can all expect to be having inspections done and emissions inspections passed yearly in order to keep them registered.
Sleds are already too much money, especially considering our economy blows and every penny counts, plus winter is not very forth coming with snow like it used to be..
I dont know, to me the sled haters will get thier way with regs like these put on sleds.
I'll keep running my 01 vmax oil hog as long as i can just too piss the greenies off, lol!

I am not sure i follow your logic, CC's are required on my car in NY right now but I don't have to have it pass an emissions inspection every year.
It's currently illegal to modify your exhaust but there is still no requirement for an annual inspection.
I don't see how adding one more requirement to a sled is going to trigger inspections.

How do you not have to have them to pass NY inspections? I failed last year cause i deleted them on my f-150. Went to alot of shops and all said the same. No cats, no pass period. Maybe just older vehicles? I by new every two so not sure on older stuff.

1 mag said yammie rumor is a new 3/4 size sled maybe phazer motor in regular trail chassis instead of dirt bike chassis??
I would suspect an 80hp+ Skidoo ACE this motor is very clean running and should earn them lots of credits right?

The last Snowest mag had a big article about motor tech. It made it out like all but Yamaha were in the hot seat.
