I know this topic has been beat into the ground so short & simple....

'07 FX, 4K miles, started the issue alot last year. Read somewhere about messing with the secondary clutch & a shim.

Taking one out + from where (front/ back) OR was it adding one?

Also heard about the new belt design but I just bought an OEM one, still work doing the shim stuff? Returning it isn't really possible.

Thanks guys ;)!

You would add shim which will make your belt ride lower in secondary. This takes any tension off the reverse mechanism and allows it to shift easier.Low riding belt will take some performance away on launch but havent heard many complaints so probably not noticeable.

its just a washer, i took 1 out of mine.. ill send you a pic of it..

Maybe if you bought a new belt, they would have sold you the updated version - you would have to check the part numbers. Why not check with the dealer to see if they will fix the problem for you? There is a # of things they have tried - they did for my '08 and now works ~ 95%.

Also check your idle. Reverse won't engage unless RPMs are under 1800.
It may also be your throttle position sensor.

I am using the new belt but still having the occasional reverse issue. The dealer installed the shim last month so we'll see if it makes a difference.

Tony, why'd you take 1 out? Cannon says to ADD 1?

Had been engaging fine but when it hit 4K last season, it just went to hell LOL :o|

Gonna see the dealer about a shim/washer and some other various bolts I need. They've told me it's just the way the gears "mesh" together and not alot they can do for it.

took 1 out to get the belt to ride higer in the sheaves.. quicker off the line..i have never really had a problem with reverse.. i usually just have to rocket back and forth once or twice and then it pops in..

These guys are all correct. The full reverse update requires a different belt and adding a shim.So belt(even updated) will be riding low in sheaves.Like I said this should affect launch negatively but havent heard complaints and it does help reverse engagement.Just need to decide if you want every bit of performance or easy reverse engagement.

X2

Plus I find it have a harder time when the sled is cold. I always back it in to wherever I am parking it for the night. If it is on the trailer I will leave it there until the RPM's drop down to about 17-1800, does not seem to like to engage above that.

What I found that helped with mine is the drive chain adjustment has to be on the "loose" side. I adjusted mine where I just felt a little resistance and then backed it 1/4 turn. Manual says finger tight and then back out 1/4 turn, but what is "finger tight"?

That's when my problems started - when I hit 4000 kms (I'm at 4300 now).

Thanks Cannon,

I prefer easy reverse, just want it to function better.

It's an 80 hp sled & I'm around 280# so not alot of affecting "performance" going on here!
