Has anyone run with a set of Viper saddle bags on an RS or RX? I don't see why it wouldn't work. These worked so well on my Viper I kept them thinking I could use them again. I don't believe that the trim on the side of the exhaust gets very hot. My only challenge is going to be trying to fit a buckle down on the side of the tunnel extension for the rear straps. Looking for a little reassurance before I start drilling holes ;)!

looks nice and seems to fit snug... I like those and wish I could find a set.

Do a good jod securing them to the tunnel and they work great. I ran them for about 1000 miles on my phazer until one buckle came undone and it flipped behind the exhaust. Luckily my buddy was able to pass and stop me before it got too bad. Melted the bags all to crap but my stuff was fine.

Broken straps

These broken straps are exactly why I would not recommend. I'm sure they will fit, but good luck if you plan to carry anything. IMO, 1000 miles is far too fast for those straps to separate from the bags. Mine did exactly the same thing in less than 500 miles. Yamaha replaced them under warranty, but the new ones would obviously have the same problem.

The issue is that the straps are sewn into a single seam with no reinforcement. It appears all of the yamaha bags are made this way. Too bad because they are nice otherwise. But, inspect your bags with particular attention to how the straps attach to the bags. If they are just sewn into the seam where the bags are put together, assume they will pull apart. As Lee says, you will either melt your bags, lose your clothes on the trail, or both. It happened to me o n two different sets of "premium" bags. The third set (different model) was made with the same defect.

Since then I have gotten choko bags and cortec bags and it's clear they are built to a much higher standard. Ymmv. But be aware!

Update
I misread Lees comment. In his case the buckle came undone. That happened once to me too. I tied a knot in the end of the strap so that if the buckle came loose, it would not pull out. Instead the strap separated from the bags for me.

Thanks to all for your input and comments. I have probably close to 3,000 miles on these bags when they were mounted to my Viper. I had bought the saddle bags originally from a friend who had restitched the front straps before he sold them to me. So the 3,000 miles on put on the bags were after they were restitched. The only issue I ever had with them was trying to undo the rear straps at the end of the riding day as ice would build on the strap and buckle. I bought some cam lock buckles that I thought I would try for the rear straps. I never had any issues with the front cam lock buckles when these bags were mounted on my Viper. I think the bottom line is that they should work providing they stay on the sled :) G.B.

I run 11 year old Polaris saddle bags on my 05 Vector. One strap holder riveted to each side of the tunnel. Rear strap loops underneath the rear grab bar. I wind the rear strap around the bar one or to times for good measure. Never had a problem in the numerous bag trips I have taken over the years. No issues with the exhausts either...they stay cool.

If you want to REALLY strap them down, put eyebolts mounted vertical on each side of the tunnel/footrest and use a bungee cord to keep them tight. Been doing this since the mid 80's.

PM me your email addy....I can take a pic and email it to you if you want.

I have thousands of miles on Vmax bags that look the same as these. Never a problem except if the wife is allong, then they are too small. You just have to make sure everything is strapped down very snug.

I did one 1000+ mile trip with these on an RX1. still worked well. I have 2 sets of these, an apex set, and an rx1 set. these are a bit larger which is good.
