It's time to start my 2012-2013 mileage log.
Finally the cold weather has arrived after a month around freeze.
Temps are now below -12 C or 10 F.
Condition are all ice at around the house in Lakselv.
We have snow in the mountains and if I drive 15 miles or 25 kilometers inland I could ride around on the snow covered road and trails. Rivers are a bit scary still, the same goes for the lakes.
I have some work to do on my sleds. They have not got the love they deserve as we've been working on reinventing our house for the last year. The carpenters says we're done any day soon, so my hope is they're done withing mid December
I will start working on the 2008 RTX, stretching it to 136 adding a studded Cobra track to it. All will be documented in rxrider's turbo garage thread.
Flights have been reserved for my annual Maine Ride. Going over to visit Bob Davis in February-March 2013. Will be riding a 2013 Vector rented at Gary's Yamaha in Caribou, Maine. Thanks to Gary's Yamaha I will be riding a Yamaha sled yet again.
Bob has put his 2005 Venture on pension, so I was not able to ride his sled this season. His Venture is now more of a Museum artifact
I'll be back with more when riding begins.
See ya all, have a happy sledding season.

Rxrider glad to hear your going or I should say coming to Maine again with Hondo or Bob.
I sure miss his comments on this site, as I enjoy yours.
I laugh thinking about it, I now have both a Venture GT and a Vector GT in some part due to reading his /your glowing reports- to go with the Apex GT of course.
To bad it is so far to Maine would love to ride with your crew, I guess am close compared to Norway.
Have fun guys. Say hi to Bob we met years ago at Haydays when he and sled were on the Yamaha tour.

Oh I am at about 50 miles so far, NEED SNOW.

Thanks Yamadoo
You beat me on mileage by 50 to 1 or more LOL.
I have not ridden any of my sleds yet. We have crazy cold weather down at 0 F as of now, but we're desperately in need of snow, for the most part it's icy all over. For the last month it's been dryer than the desert of Sahara in our region. Nothing strange about that as we get a foot of water in the form of snow or rain a year in average.
We're living in what's called an arctic desert which compares to the great desert of Sahara when it comes to the amount of water falling on average in a year. We will get snow sooner or later. We have enough to ride .... barely

We went up to our cabin on Lake Gagga again this weekend.
We have got a few feet of snow the last few weeks.
The shed got a nice cornice on top.
Loads of snow on the cabin roof. I had to dig away snow for the went pipes which none of them were to be seen cause the deep layer of snow on top of the roof. Wifey and kids are getting ready to go for a short ride down on the lake for some ice fishing.
Warming up the sled.
My daughter Amanda ice fishing, no catch today :-(
The sun is back. This pic is shot shortly after noon. The sun is barely above the mountain somewhere inside the clouds. Nice view.
Out cabin somewhere in the centre of the picture.
Wifey and our youngest daughter Linnea didn't care much for ice fishing in the windy conditions.
Me and Amanda kept it up for another half an hour before we called it a day. Still no catch....
Amanda made use of two reindeer hydes to keep the wind and cold away.
She did it the way of our ancestors did way back....
One skin on the ground then sit on the end of the other keeping a double layer of reindeer skin under her feet and then wrap the skin over her back. Keeps the cold away even in heavy winds.
And of course you need good gloves and a super warm head wear, wolfskin or bearskin hats are the best.
End trip.

I'm flying Icelandair via Keflavik, Iceland to JFK, New York, USA.
Boarding my flight at Gardermoen Oslo Airport, Norway.
Norwegian and Thai Airlines.
On Our way from Keflavik to New York.
The west coast of Greenland 30 minutes out to the east.
A lot of pack ice drifing in the sound between Greenland and Labrador, Canada.
Arrived at JFK Ahead of schedule.
GroundLink picked me up at JFK and drove me to LaGuardia where I boarded my flight With Delta Airlines bound for Bangor, Maine.
Bob picked me up at Bangor International at 11:30 PM - and we headed North to Bob's home at Eagle Lake some 200 miles North of Bangor.
The NeXT morning Bob showed me what he's up to hunting Coyote's. Bob is a part of a program reducing the number of Coyote's in Northern Maine. The Coyote's have become too many which have put a the deer population under pressure. Reducing the Coyote population may eventually bring the Balance back to where the deer population will again grow to a sustainable Level.
A few dead Coyote's outside Bob's house.
At noon we went to Gary's Sales & Service in Caribou, Maine to pick up the sled.
At this time I thought I was going to ride a '10 Vector LTX.
Inside Gary's Yamaha. Bob Davis to the left and John Raymond (the owner of Gary's Sales and Service) to the right.
Gary's sells a lot of stuff:
- Yamaha everything, almost
- Star Motorcycles
- Husqvarna Chain saws and Equipment
- Kioti Tractors
- Snowblowers
Outside Gary's
We were at Gary's to pick up the Vector or so we though.
John Raymond told us he sold the Vector...... but then he asked me if I would be OK riding a 2011 Apex XTX With EPS Power steering in stead ?????
He would charge me the same as the Vector!!!
I'm perfectly OK With that deal was my reply.
Here's my ride
Loading up the sled.
We went for a short ride in the afternoon to check out the sled and to have dinner at Lake View Restaurant at Long Lake.
Start odo.
We started out by riding up the hill on Bob's property. Looking Down towards Eagle Lake.
My good friend Bob Davis is a happy sledder riding his 2012 Vector LTX With EPS.
Fueling up at Citgo.
Outside Lake View late afternoon. On Our way back home to Eagle Lake.
End trip.

We are going on a ride way Down South With Our friends Bob Darrah and Kristin Dube.
We took the day off servicing the sleds and making minor adjustments to the suspension.
I have placed my sled on the sled stand.
I adjusted the track tension and set the springs to soft.
Checked oil and coolant Level.
Bob's sled checked, serviced and ready to go.
Bob's old Venture is still in service.
Bob aka Hondo - the happy sledder
Tuesday March 5th.

Somewhere in the Woods on Our way to the Trains on Chamberlain Lake.
We found this bird, nicknamed the Loggers Companion I believe.
The bird landed in Boost Bob hand, very Nice bird
We left the ITS-85 and headed into the big Woods of Maine.
Entering the Chamberlain Lake, we're on Our way out west to have a look at the old steam trains.
Where we came from.
The trail Ahead. We saw a few Bald Head Eagles flying high in the sky. Too far away for my mobile phone camera.
At the trails on Chamberlain Lake. Kristin in front of the Trains.
There are two steak Trains left behind way back in time. They went out of service in the 30s.
The history of the steam locomotives. A piece of Maine Logging History.
Hondo is a tall guy, he's rather small in front of the Trains.

Bob's arriving underneat the old rail track.
We're out in the great nowhere in the Maine woodlands.
Boost Bob is having a look at the map as we're not going to ride the marked trail to Matagamon.
Bob is memorizing the unmarked route Down to Matagamon Lake.
This trail was not groomed and very few sleds had rode Down this trail this Winter.
At one spot we came up on fallen pine trees blocking the trail. We did not have a saw or Axe With us, luckily we were able to Clear a route around the fallen trees.
We entered Matagamon Lake shortly after.
Entering the lake Hondo had the low fuel warning light come on.
In the middle of the lake my fuel light came on.
We made it to Matagamon General Store With fuel to spare, not much but noone ran out of fuel.
Inside at Matagamon General Store. We had hot drinks and bought some beer before we rode the last leg Down to Bowlin Camps.

Monday March 4th.

Start odo.

We getting ready for the ride Down to Bowlin Camps.

We met Our friends Bob and Kristin at the Tamerack Inn in Eagle Lake for breakfast.

After breakfast we fueled up the sleds and headed Down South towards Portage on trail ITS-85.

A short break on the side of the trail.
The sleds:
Bob Darrah's 2013 Nytro XTX
Krisin Dube's 2010 Nytro XTX
Bob Davis' 2012 Vector LTX
Jan-Ove Pedersen's 2011 Apex XTX

Kristin and her Nytro

A nicely girlified sled

Riding Down South on ITS-85. Leaving Portage Lakers Trail System.

Bob Darrah on the banks of the Aroostook River.

Kristin and Hondo.

We fueled up at the Homestead Lodge in Oxbow.
Hondo, Bob and Kristin.

The Homestead Lodge Buildings.

The Homestead Lodge Restaurant serves some very special Burgers, you have to taste them, very good mmmmmmmmmmmm.

We continued Down South to Libby Camps on the shores of the Millinocket Lake.
Visit Libby Camps at http://www.libbycamps.com/
Having lunch at Libby Camps.

Hondo.

Bob and Bob.

Outside at Libby Camps.

Fueling up at Libby Camps before the leg Down to Matagamon where the NeXT gas pump.

Ready for the ride South.

Kristin.

At an old Train bridge across a small river.

End trip.

End odo.

Mileage so far. The trip have tipped over once so you can add 1000 miles to get the total miles.

Outside Our cabin at Bowlin Camps. It's an old cabin.

Inside the cabin. Hondo and me are having a Bud Lime before dinner.

Cool pic found on the cabin wall.

Dinner at Bowlin Camps.

Map found at the wall inside the restaurant at Bowlin Camps.
