I see that yamaha has closed the open tunnel on the 2009 Phazer. Does this mean that they will do an upgrade on the 2007 and 2008 Phazers?

If you have an 07/08 just do it yourself. Get a sheet of aluminum and cut it to fit , then rivit it on.

I gets hot, but with it open the exhaust melts the snow in to ice and you end up with a frozen Phazer.

makes sence, might explain my sled being 50 lbs heaveir then factory spec last year, lol. so then if I do this should I cut some vents into the plastic to atleast get some air to it?

I don't think that you have to. I ran mine with the closed tunnel and the plastic behind the seat didn't even get warm. I don't think that anone that has done this has melted any plastic. If you have the fan on yours you shouldn't have any problem with overheating. Hope this helps.

Closure

Zook bare with me on this, I recently purchased a Phazer for my wife and added the side tunnel skirts, is it going to be an issue if I do close the tunnel with the heat? I am not sure about what fan you are talkin about. When I purchased it I asked the dealer to make sure all of the updates were done. Is the fan an update? Sled is a 07 FX

He is talking of the radiator fan.I think your model had one.If I had the side skirts I would take them off if closing the tunnel. At least the back ones.Copy the 09's.I cant remember if they left skirts on or not.

dox06--cannondale is right. The 07 FX din not come with a fan. It was an update. Take off the rear skirts and close up the back hole in the tunnel. I have had not heat issues. As for the fan if you don't have it you might over heat. Mine did untill I got the fan. Hope this helps out.

i have both the side covers and closed tunnel with no problems whatsoever, having all the holes drilled in the tunnel,i decided to keep the covers so the holes wouldnt show,on a warm day,the plastic barely gets warm,i did make some louvers in my tunnel cover like the one from excell

Tunnel

Sounds good thanks guys. I think I am going to cover the tunnel and try it with the side skirts. guess I should have read this a topic here about two weeks ago before I bought the side skirts for my wifes sled. Would have saved me about a buck forty. Oh well I guess I will have her give it a shot and see if there are any issues.

Getting the itch bad. Ready to ride......

I too bought the side covers, and they failed to solve the ice problem. I then purchased a rear enclosure from Excel Motorsports, and it did the trick. Also, it is vented down the middle, which may help keep the exhaust cooler. I have not had any problems with melting plastic.

I'm going to pull off the side covers and re-rivot the empty holes. Then I'm closing off the hole completely this year. I've seen several Phazer and Venture lites with them closed and guys have had no problems.

Closure

I am going to close the tunnel with a piece of AL, but leave the side skirts on. I am going to drill some vent holes down the center of the piece I add though. C what that does for me.....
