I finally found a decent mapping GPS with a good sized screen. I mounted it using the RAM system. The ball mount is great as you can place them anywhere and quickly move the whole unit. They are rock solid as you drive as well. I have one on the handle bar of my quad and dash of my truck. They are only $150 CAN and I purchased the SD card with my areas topo maps. The maps show great detail of lakes and elevation. It comes preloaded with street maps so you can use it in your vehicle as well. There are definitely better road only units and the Garmin hand helds are better for plotting waypoints, but as an all in one it does the job. The 12V plug is right there and I can still see it when driving even with the 3" riser. The touch screen slows a bit in the cold but not too badly.

I have used a Garmin 76CSX for years and it fits nicely in a Yamaha tank bag. I found some black foam and cut a hole to match the GPS. Foam and GPS fits where a trail map would be. The cord runs to the 12v outlet and when the motor is running, the unit stays lighted. The unit produces a small amount of heat so it stays warm when riding in sub-zero weather.

It is not as easy to read as your ball mount near the speedo but it works. I can operate the buttons through the plastic cover of the tank bag.

A GPS w/map sure gives you confidence when exploring or looking for gas. At home I often enter waypoints from a trail map and these come in handy on the weekends.

Hi There,
Can you tell me which tank bag you are using.
I'm new. I am awaiting a 2010 RS Pro and will be doing some grooming/travel with it.
