On my sled I did not cover anything on mine, no problems, I did this last year, and this year, no color changes, deterioration.

I did not spray on cowl stickers, the stickers on the side had no issues, when I was done, I washed it with water right after. We also did 2 more sleds, 2 Skidoos, and hit some more stickers, washed it off with no issues.

I got it at Napa, blue and white bottle, under $10.00. It is called Aluminum Brightener.
