Yes the flimsy clip spins on the shaft and compromises the groove. Knowing how well this turned out I would not take the chance. Any good machinist would be able to do this. I would do it for free just for the love of the sport.

The lock is slightly smaller in diameter by a few .000 of an inch. Just enough to clean up the bottom of the groove. The lock is almost double the width and double the strength. No worries about making adjustments and servicing the clutch. It is way more solid. Nice easy mod.

Thanks Mooseman, I think the ice boogers are less icy. There is defiantly less heat under the tunnel that's for sure.

I installed it shortly after I took it apart. I had a trip planed in North Bay. I should have taken a picture of the finish product. I was in a bit of a hurry. I followed the specs for the lock and the fit was perfect. No need for washers. The clutch worked flawlessly.

I know this has been discussed to death but here is my 2 cents worth.
I went CTC and picked up some pre-made exhaust pipes and added them to my muffler with some exhaust clamps.
I have driven this season with the mod and it defiantly helps. Way less build up and quieter for sure.

This solution is a fix. The lock does not even think about moving. I can now bring this machine to top speed with absolutely no concern of it coming apart. The old light duty lock could not handle the centrifugal forces and would spin and ware the groove down. This will never happen again...
This picture shows the final cut to the top of the spline on the end of the shaft. I had to bring this into spec so the lock would not stretch upon installation.

This is the lock I went to for a replacement. This gives me a couple of things. It is a HD lock with 2X the holding power at least. It also was slightly smaller in diameter and wider. This gave me just enough material to work with.
