The steering shaft at the other end should just be three nuts where you will need to pull the cotter pins. Also, if the gas tank is not already removed, you will most likely need to as you need to get a wrench/socket on the end of the bolts to loosen/fasten those nuts.

Good point regarding oiling the cables, or at least the cable ends that connect to the servo bracket, as I started doing that using high-temp CRC Nickel Anti-Seize on them from day one. Thought it would help with preventing the cable ends to fray as I thought that might be a contributing factor...
