    St Germain, WI 12/28

The trails were pretty good. Id rate them as an 8 out of 10. They havent gotten a lot of snow lately, so you definetly want to avoid the heavily-travelled trails though. Anything North and West of Minocqua should be good.

    Twist throttle?

Trust me, twist throttles dont work on snowmobiles. Like I said, if twist throttles were so great on a sled, they would come that way. I tried a twist throttle on my '06 YFZ 450 SE and it didnt work very well. I read all those posts on various ATV forums that said basically what I said in my...

    Twist throttle?

Twist throttles really dont work very well on snowmobiles. They work fine on a bike because you steer mostly by leaning your body, but on a sled you steer with your shoulders and its really easy to give it gas unintentionally when you turn the bars. Also, if you hit a rock or stump with one of...

    Race Class for 4-Stokes

The RX-1, Apex, FX Nytro and FST should race in 800 class. AC Jag (assuming it not a turbo), Doo 1200 and Vector should race in 600 class.

    St Germain, WI 12/28

I just got back from spending 5 days in St Germain visiting my parents for X-Mas. The trails are pretty decent. I would rate them as an 8 out of 10. We had temps in the mid 30s and rain on Friday and Saturday, which hurt the trails a little bit (they were a 9.5 out of 10 before that), but...

Which balaclava for use with moto helmet and goggles?

Ive always worn Yamaha's baclavias with no issues. You may want to look into if you can get a breath deflector for your helmet though. Thats going to do a better job of keeping your face warm that the noseguard on your goggles will.

    leather riding gear

I used to have a leather suit. They do keep you warmer and they do protect you more if you fall off your sled, but they are also heavier and after about 5 years the leather starts to break down and the suit gradually loses its warmth.

    four stroke engine

I work for a company that makes generators and our engine has a low-oil shutdown where that if it senses oil pressure loss for more than 8 seconds it shuts down. We've had instances where people on the line have forgotten to put oil in or where the oilpump isnt working properly and Im yet to...

Raced a Z1 turbo with attak

I know that a lot of Cat guys are very unhappy with the performance of the Z1 Turbo thus far. It definetly isnt living up to the preseason claims that Cat made.

    Honda sled

No kidding. The fact that this rumor persists every year is a testament to the marketing power of the Honda name.

    heckels

St Germain Sport Marine, and North Country in Tomahawk both sell Yamaha sleds, parts and accessories, so it seems to me the void left by Heckels is pretty well filled in the northwoods. I wasnt aware that St Germain Sport Marine sold Yamaha sleds. I know they already rented Yamahas and you...

    Honda sled

Yup, every year the Honda sled rumors start up about this time. I remember the rumor last year about how Honda was going to buy Polaris and start making sleds...LOL. It would be cool if Honda got into the snowmobile market, but Im not holding my breath for it to happen. With the world's...

    Design Intent!!

Mmmm, maybe. You could argue that the Apex is more of a snocross style sled because of the rider-foreward design.

    Design Intent!!

If you look at sleds from the past 10 years, really none of them were designed for trail riders. The Pro-X, the Rev, the Firecat; they were all ditchbanger/snocross wanna be sleds.

RTX Is The Highest Maintenance Production Sled

You are going to have yearly maintenance items on any sled. The difference is that with a Yamaha, you can be sure that you wont need to worry about the engine. You cant say the same about those other brands...

You dont want Trackside to be a Yamaha dealer. I dont see how Minocqua is too far to drive from Eagle River. Its only a 20 minute drive.

    New Yamaha Patents Filed

Yamaha has electric power steering on the Grizzly 700 4x4 ATV, so I could see them coming out with that on a snowmobile.

I think the Lake Dubay dealership was Polaris anyways, so no big loss there. I noticed that in recent years, even the Heckles in Eagle River started stock a lot more Polaris stuff and their used inventor tended to be a lot more Polaris sleds than Yamaha.

    Go snowmobiling. Why not?

I think the point that the author was trying to make is that snowmobilers are much more focused on new technology and outright performance. Look at how many people on forums are obsessed with which sled is the lightest, has the most horsepower and the most suspension travel. You dont really...
