The power claw although 15 wide is by far the best track for the Apex and I tried them both, the challenger extreme is a good track but the Powder claw is simply the better deep snow track as well as more reliable. My challenger delaminated.
The stock apex bottoms out the track in the aft Tunnel hard they ended up doing a mod to keep the track from getting damaged there ( Yamaha had a lot of warantie claims on tracks on the early Apexes) if you use bigger wheels that makes it even worse. You pretty much need to go aftermaket...
The skid is from Holz Racing products I did my own set up for it and behind the seat is my snowboard rack---nothing beats a 250HP ski lift :)
And of course there is the echaust system custom tuned to the R1 Motor --- Boy she sounds sweet --- and it is about 20 pounds lighter than stock.
There are several companies making adjustable weights , I run a team secondary from Hartman he has complete clutching set ups , I however run my own with heelklickers down in the low 50 gram range and all I do is change tip weight for trail riding down low and pull some for deep snow up high 2...
All dpends on how much you want to mess with it. at least make sure t is set up for 10 000 feet with the yamaha clutching specs. You may need the secondary a tad tighter for RPM and backshift 10800 rpm in a climb is happiness. You can get totaly caried away with what you can do to them , make...
Just loosen the secondary a bit if you ride a lot in these conditions. If you usually ride higher and in powder you need the revs to stay up it is common to hit the limiter down lower on the trails when set up for max rpm climbing. Adjustable primary weights allow me to just add a set screw...
Everything exept the tunnel - it is moded with drop brackets and alum bumper, could loose probably an other 10 15 pounds there.
Sly dog skis -Bark buster front end - Holz skid - Mt mod seat andHood with headlight delete( have small light on handlebars) shorai batterie Home made Bike exhaust...
A set of sly dog 8 inch powderhounds and powerclaw track will help the Nytro float. Also tighten up the secondary for higher RPM and faster backshift if you run stock clutching this will help the Nytro a bunch especialy up high. The Apex will still be a bit better especially if it has some...
Just opened my airbox forward below the foam 8 - 1/2 inch holes -- Rpm went up just over 200 rpm same track same clutching same temp air fuel is still in the low 13 to ones with no changes to the fuelmanagment. That is plenty rich for normaly aspirated.
Yes boost will corupt you :) but the dialed Apex will always outdoo the Nytro by a litle --Make sure you run at least 10500 to 10800 rpm keep it on the high end to see bes results.
Looks like I did trow it away , it was for a 2008 anyway.
It is easy to modify yours if you have a friend that is handy with a tig welder .
Just cut some holes facing forward beside the exhaust pipe that goes into the mufflerand weld a about 6 8 inch long tube facing forward under the tunnel...
I modified a stock exhaust by cutting of the outlets and remounting them facing forward under the Tunnel then build a checkerboard aluminium cover around the back end . This is a excellent quiet mod for trail use, not the silly loud under Tunnel exhausts.
If you are interested I will have a look...
It has everyting needed to run no headshim needed 190 HP on premium fuel or 250 on race fuel or av gas have an other guy looking as well not sure may be sold just send him a shipping Quote. If not I will let you know
