interesting.. for a 2015 Spring order in Canada i am getting quotes between $700-900 for an additional yr warranty above the 3yr offered on the spring order.
Funny , I currently ride a 06 Apex , and thought both the LTX and RtX Vipers I demo'd were quite snappy in the mid range. THe RTX had some interesting pushing characteristics in the corners but the motors were strong. Both were well past break in but stock.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but the LED's will still take 12V but the current draw should be less than the regular light setup. However the smaller the current draw the more likely the battery will be able to keep a 12 volt + voltage available for the ECU etc.
Cheers,
That maybe the case, but this lad seemed to be the real deal, a Canadian district service manger, Very sharp. A friend of mine who is a second generation power sports dealer , says he is the one he called when modifying clutch parameters on a customers Viper. He helped him dial it right in...
So I clarified the situation this evening. No recall, just replace as needed with new part and part number. Apparently there have not been that many failures, my take on the situation is this, likely they had a bad batch of mufflers, probably a small number of owners will ever be effected...
The P1338 error code was on my list of questions when i talked to a Yamaha District Service manager last night at a local sled show. He said a P1338 is always a battery issue. He said check battery and ensure battery connections are tight.
Don't shoot the messenger, that is what he said.
I went in with a list of questions (the Viper is on my spring order short list). When the muffler question came up , he acknowledged it and stated a new model was on the way. It took me by surprise actually, but that is what he said. I asked him why no seems to know about it, he said they...
I was at a Canadian sled show today. I had a good chin wag with a Yamaha district service manager. He says Yamaha corp. Is aware of the problem and a new/replacement muffler is in the works. He said dealers should be aware by now.
Ummmm no...not in my opinion. If I am cruising the local trails, stopping at the local joints for beers/wings it would be a pain in the #*$&@ to get the sled out of the bush to a truck/trailer and then home. If it happens when i am on a 5 day trip in Northern Ontario 100 miles from the next town...
Well after trying several sleds this year i have narrowed my spring order down to 2 sleds. Either a Viper LTX-DX or a Skidoo Renegade X 600 ETEC. I think I would be happy with either sled , they are both seem great. It may just come down to price ...who knows. My wife and I tried a 2011 GSX a...
Thanks, I am guessing the Viper is a little less rider for ward than the Ski-doo Renegade? I have ridden them both, but not back to back, and can't remember the details.
I tried two dealer demo vipers over the past month. 1st one had the hot starting issue , code P1338 I believe?. The 2nd one had a low idle stall complete with oil light flashing....I realize the oil flashing light was directly because of the stall.....but it is not a confidence inspiring experience!
See, I thought the GSX was more "planted" than the Viper. Viper seemed to have more inside ski lift and a little more vague in the corners. But thanks for the good information, which stage Elka's are you running on your sleds?
I like the 4 stroke grunt as well. I agree the ski-doo's look a little flimsy, but I don't see them breaking much, other than some engine issues. Has there been any real issues with the late model ski doo skids or suspensions?
