curious of what the viper will be like?

Heck I was lucky to get a belt past 1400 miles with my Nytro, didn't bother me at $65 a pop, no big deal, roughly 2 belts maybe a third at the end of the season. Agree everything else mentioned, 10,000 miles I would have been thrilled if that was all the issues I hade on either my Apex or...

    Ugly....

Grab a broom stick in the middle with both hands about 12 inches apart, have someone try to move one of the ends. Now move your arms 36-48 inches apart, have the persone try to move the end. That's essentially what's happening at the base of your ski at the spindle. Trust me the front end...

    AC Pro Cross -vs- Viper

Cat has the vespel Hifax now as well, looked a bit different, had the insert at roughly a 45 degree angle, several little inserts, that appeared to be the full length not just a 3/4 length. Not sure if it will be better or worse, however the price was something like 40-50 I think. So even if...

Should I fix it, or can I run it ???

Welcome to the Mono! By far the biggest issue with that skid is breaking the arms, second is that it's just not capable of dealing with large bumps. Now in the small stutters it's just the opposite, it can't be beat. As mentioned, weld it back up again, as long as everything can be...

    CONFUSED

I think overall the partnership will improve both, without a doubt Cat can learn a thing or two about drivelines and QDR. With that, Yam can learn a thing or two about suspensions and steering design. Has Cat dropped the ball on the ProCross chassis, probably, I think they have something...

    Best handling Yamaha?

Sounds like you would like the new Viper, the chassis is much more rider friendly in that you get all the benefits of taller sleds but with the easy steering and good handling as well. What you truly want doesn't exist as sleds are always a compromise. On a groomed flat curvy trail, an old...

Fox Float 2 vs Float 3s

Float 3's have the Kashima coating, reduces stiction and improves the stutter characteristics. This is the same coating available from The Fox website as an extra.

    Exact specifications

From what I understand this is the lowdown; Engine (1049) Yamaha on both but Cat electronics on the Cat. This leads me to think Cat plans on Turboing this thing. Clutches Cat gets the "improved" Cat clutches, Yamaha gets the Yamaha clutches. No shock here other than the cat MAY end up...

    Can it take a beating

Based on what I've read, and can see from the pics; Cat tried to maintain primary to secondary alignment, and spacing (CtC) using the aluminum bar TCL (torque control link), originally it was a solid billet piece that was machined. By the 12' release the TCL was a piece of extruded aluminum...

    Looking for advice...Viper or Apex?

If you love speed and power your question should be 1100T or Apex. Honestly the Viper will likely out handle the Apex especially in the tighter and rougher stuff. But if you want a GROOMED TRIAL sled that will run for a long time with years of bug fixes behind it, the Apex is tough to beat...

Does the Motor Look likes it's mounted too high?

It looks like you may be able to change the oil filter by just removing the side pannel.

    viper chain case????

The recessed reverse button is not an issue with gloves, maybe if you wear mittens but otherwise it's not a big deal. The Doo one, while easy to push, i bumped it probably 4 times, crazy thing is that it actually stopped the engine and went into RER, once while I was crossing a road. The...

    Gear gurus, need some help

I'm a bit suprised at the level of wear on the reverse coupled gears. I guess the stretched chain may have caused that, how was the chain tension prior to slipping? Those gears shouldn't have any rear load in when in forward. Maybe check the bearings to see if there is any play, which could...

Not sure on what to do?? skis and adjustments

Remove the preload on the front end. As mentioned, lot of track and studs to get it to turn. Try reducing the transfer a bit on the rear and see what happens. Due to te extra track/traction you may want to try a shaper bar, it won't likely help in the darting department but the other...

    Gear gurus, need some help

While I agree the gears should probably be replaced, the root cause of the slippage is most likely the chain stretch. Had it happen to a friend of mine. Because the chain is stretched the effective gear size changes, it would be like running a 2.52" pitch driver on a 3.00" pitch track, the...

When will they wake up? 2014 hopefully

I watched Blaze and talked to him a bit at Snow Motion here in Mi. Got to look his Phazer over pretty good. Thing was beat up pretty bad. Looked good from 30/40 ft but up close and personal, rough. This was the non-turbo one. My understanding is that he had two different versions. One N/A...

    2014

I think you need to read up on the true specifications on each engine and get a full understanding of each. Including, cylinders, weight, RPM, peak H.P. non-peak H.P., physical size including mounting requirements, etc. there is much more to each engine than just the displacement. Yes the...

Fully Clipped Tracks & Slide Wear

The "lightweight" clips with the holes in them probably do trap some abrasives in thE pockets wHen riding on snert or low snow conditions. If you don't have some ditches to dip into occasionally and or some water holes to clean out the junk you are not going to see improvement. However my...

2007 Apex ER front shocks adjustmen or just crappy handling?

Check your transfer setting in the rear skid. If you are set to mid or less try the above, if you are set mid to max, you'll want to change it to at least mid, I typically ran between mid and min. It allows you to slide the rear skid around better as well. You will loose a bit of traction...

    Vibration

Checked all of the drive bearings? I know in two or more inches of snow I would get a low frequency vibration, I eventually figured it was the track, and snow hitting the front exchanger. Always checked/changed the bearings on the jack/drive shafts.
