Excell 135.8 mm wheel kit thread - rail health?

I happen to measure Yamaha OEM hyfax and Garland Hyfax. I took multiple measurements of of each. For what it's worth, the material thickness on the wear portion on the OEM units is a hair over 0.03" thicker than the Garland hyfax (0.40" vs. 0.37").

Any Reviews on Hyfax Saver front wheel kit for Nytro FX RTX

I don't know for sure, but the wheels look a little bigger in diameter. I didn't measure them, but Chris said they are 4.34 inches/110 mm in diameter. He also indicated his bearings are 3 mm wider than the Yamaha bearing. He charges $109 for the kit. With shipping it came to $122.94.

I got the kit today and Chris includes helical lock washers. Per the directions, you still need to use thread locking compound

Any Reviews on Hyfax Saver front wheel kit for Nytro FX RTX

What is nice about lock washers is that their lower stiffness and high deflection (relative to the bolt) maintains some semblance of clamp load if you get into some of the various bolted joint failure modes (brinelling, exceeding clamp load, etc.).

Excell 135.8 mm wheel kit thread - rail health?

I live just outside of DC in Bowie, MD and typically go to Old Forge, NY and Tug Hill, NY. I did a trip to Maine two years ago (there was no snow in NY) and the riding was great, but I hated the long drive. I also go out to Gallatin National Forest about once every 2 to 3 years, but in that case...

Excell 135.8 mm wheel kit thread - rail health?

I put my 6 wheel kit on yesterday in addition to to adding Over the Top Performance ice scratchers to my skis. Hopefully I'll get another chance to ride this year and test them out. So far 4 have answered the poll and those have had good outcomes.

    Hello!

Call those curves styling elements that are part of your design language. Tell folks that they represent the whoops in the trail that inspired you to go to a 144. :)

Excell 135.8 mm wheel kit thread - rail health?

I took some measurements with my presently worn worn hyfax. My 2013 Nytro RTX SE's right side hyfax is worn down to ~15.3 mm under the OEM middle idler wheel. I didn't bother taking any pics as it was tough to get a good perspective with parallax issues. 1) I would assume that wheel has ~5300...

Do you need to drill rail to mount Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit on the FX Nytro RTX?

I didn't get to putting in my new hyfax yet, but I did take some measurements with the worn hyfax. Since I have a thread going regarding the Excell wheels, I'll put the info there. https://ty4stroke.com/threads/excell-135-8-mm-wheel-kit-thread-rail-health.152161/

Do you need to drill rail to mount Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit on the FX Nytro RTX?

Sevey, I hate to laugh, but wow, LOL! That was some "little bang". How did a "little bang" into the idler wheels transmit such loads to the exhaust collector and oil tank bracket? With sudden impacts, even 15 kph can result in violent transmissions of energy. Did you hit something hard under...

Do you need to drill rail to mount Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit on the FX Nytro RTX?

Sevey, That might the case if one's rail looked like that in the pic WiscSledder1969 posted. My hole is in a different location. If you look at my pic above, the excessive hyfax wear area starts right underneath the empty hole in my rail and peaks about 3 inches/8 cm back. I started with fresh...

Do you need to drill rail to mount Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit on the FX Nytro RTX?

WiscSledder1969, My 2013 RTX rail is slightly different. I have one factory hole per rail and it's not at the location of the blank hole in your pic or where you mounted the standoff for the wheel.

Excell 135.8 mm wheel kit thread - rail health?

There are a few threads scattered about regarding this. For those that have tried the Excell 6 wheel or 8 wheel kit, how have your rails fared? I figured we can collect this all in one place. If you don't mind, let us know the following: 1) Your approximate miles with the kit installed? 2) What...

Do you need to drill rail to mount Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit on the FX Nytro RTX?

Sevey, Localized stress on the rail is a concern. I still haven't installed my Excell 6 wheel kit as I'm on the fence. Aluminum is typically not very ductile/malleable like steel is and I would be concerned that a small crack would zipper into a larger crack. I'm not by my sled right now, but...

nor`easter, Great pic. Because of the bigger wheels, the Schmidt kit is the way I'm leaning. Does the kit provide template or dimensions for drilling?
