I had the exact same problem. Just buy yamaha parts and save the aggravation.

When my stator went the same symptoms happend as the battery was drained.

If it has no spark pull the nose cone and verify that the wires are on the regulator rectifier properly. If they are you could have bought a sled with a bad stator/ pulsar coil.
