    Lifetime MPH

Thought about this on the weekend; what is the lifetime MPH of my sled? 2017 Winder - 6020 miles on the odometer, 191 hours on the gauge. 6020/191 = 31.5 MPH. What this tells me, I have no idea. I know quite a few of those miles are WOT on the lake, and our trail system lends itself to...

    Front heat exchanger removal?

Anyone done this yet? Looks like I might have a Winder coming into the shop that needs a replacement. I haven't really looked at what's involved yet (other than what's in the service manual). If you've done, I'd be curious to know what had to get R&R'd for the swap. BTW, this one isn't a...

    Water pump failure

2017 LTX LE - out at the lake Sunday, did some easy miles to break in a new belt. Did a few pulls on the lake, and immediately after getting off the gas on my last pull the engine temps went through the roof. I let it cool down for 20 or so and then tried to get it back to the cabin but no luck...

Well, this isn't good - primary is toast

Took my primary off to check the stub shaft bearing/press it back into place. First sign something was wrong was looking at the stub shaft itself - it was obvious that the clutch had been spinning on the shaft. The sled was a habitual roller-eater. Any time I tried doing longer pulls on the lake...

    Another primary clutch failure

Out on the lake this weekend with a buddy of mine. First pull rolling on from about 30 mph, and this happened to him at about 100. Things I know: STM weights Dalton B/G primary, Dalton B/O secondary 22/41, 8JP 1.25 Ice Ripper track Rollers had a bit of play in them and were going to be...

    Check your exhaust shield

While we were going through the sled on Saturday trying to find the cause of a SD26 code, I noticed this:

    SD26

One of the guys I ride with is getting a persistent SD26 code when he tries to do a WOT pull. I've read through all the prior posts on this, and we've double-checked all clamps, pulled/cleaned all lines going to MAP sensor, boost solenoid etc. Pulled the IC and cleaned it, checked throttle body...

    tuning time

Loaded up and headed out for the weekend. Complete new setup (track, gears, suspension). Went through the entire sled - nut/bolted everything, fresh fluids, new rollers, and clutches are cleaner than my browser history. I've got a box of springs and cams (thanks for the awesome service, Dale)...

    Secondary bushing

I've been playing around with the Hurricane alignment tool today and noticed that my secondary bushing seems to have a fair bit of slop in it for a sled with only 1400 miles on it. Anyone else notice this? A worn bushing is pretty hard on belts.

No Cigar (snow drags this weekend)

600' snow drags on Saturday. Gave it a good shot, but lost to 2 Apex MCX sleds. 109mph took the win, 108 mph 2nd place, and me at 107 in 3rd. Congrats to member Hlmrx1 - his sled was rocking! For comparison, the winning sled in stock turbo was a 137 Ltx-se at 96 mph. Early days for me in...

Simple hand protection for belt changes etc.

Belt guard edge is pretty sharp... I've had this window trim in the shop for over a year, figured I'd put it to good use:

    Might want to check this

Putting a new lower side panel on the SW tonight (blown belt) and noticed a pretty good gap under the clutch immediately behind the lower A-arm. I put a bit of black silicone in there to close it up. Sorry, no before pic, but here’s the ‘after’ shot:

Fastening Gap flasher for launch control

I finally got around to installing my Hurricane launch control cable. The flasher needs to be connected to the control cable for LC to function. I want to be able to remove it easily, but also have it secure for when in use. Doo makes a 180mm double-sided velcro strap for securing part of their...

    Studding consensus?

There's going to be a few fast sleds around here this winter, and also some Ski-doos. It is time for track hardware. I've read through the posts from last season on the subject; would like to hear what worked well, or what you would change if doing it again. I'm heading down to Haydays this...

    Wiring EXUP open

I've got a 2011 Apex with a busted cable. Going to try just wiring it fully open and see if there's any noticeable difference on a sled with MCX turbo installed. Can anyone confirm which direction is fully open? All the way counter-clockwise? thx

    Place your bets:

I'm going out this afternoon to get my #*$&@ handed to me. Bone stock LTX LE with just suspension dialed in vs. 2011 Apex XTX MCX 290 with a cobra track. Apex is geared 26/37, and neither sled is studded (yet). We'll be on good hard pack, and temp will be about 0C (that's 32 freedom degrees). My...

Mountain ski in place of Tuner 3?

Anybody tried this yet? If so, looking for your thoughts and what parts were needed to do the swap. 210 miles this weekend were enough to determine that the Tuner 3's days are numbered on my sled.

    Stage tuning the mid-height windshield

Stock windshield isn't getting it done for me. Love the look, but it's a bit too cold and leaves my Garmin out in the wind. Yamaha's selection of accessory windshields in virtually non-existent, so I'm making my own. I like the profile of the Viper Low Sport windshield, but not as big a fan of...

    Removing transfer blocks

I wasn't happy with the transfer (or lack of) on my 137 skid, so the blocks are out for now. 1/2 inch socket on the impact and the bolts are out. Remove shaft and then remove blocks from shaft. Re-install shaft (w/ blue loctite) with bolts not quite tight, compress the skid to index the flat...

    Anyone else low on coolant?

Have the panels off to nut/bolt everything and install a heated visor plug. My coolant expansion tank is bone dry on a warm engine. Anyone else notice this?
