I did it with the machine OFF.

That's exactly what it was, it cleaned right up. What a relief! It really looks like cracking even up close, the way that the debris wrapped around the edge and didn't initially wipe off. But a fine scouring pad cleaned it right up. Thanks guys!

I could try that, the cracks that I am seeing seem to be deeper than what could be cleaned up with a pad.

4 needle bearings? When you described using needle bearings I thought you would have used them inside the yoke piece in place of the plastic bushings. ("yoke"- the piece that the steering rods connect to, Yamaha Idler Arm 8GC-23826-00)

When I search the Camso site all I can see for Phazer is Hacksaw. Searching "Freeride" on the Camso site has zero hits. Lots of retailers still list the Freeride but out of stock. I'm going to try Tracks USA to see if they have inventory but I would much rather buy in Canada if it all possible...
