Ok Guys and Gals!
I'm back with an update on my much frowned-upon switch to SkiDoo (2011 Summit X 163" Etec 800)!
As of this moment, I have 550 miles of trouble-free mountain riding, mostly in deep powder (Northern Colo is having a GREAT snow year!). No burnt belts (still on the original)...
My vote is for a loose battery connection and/or your battery is begining to take a dump, losing it's capacity. It's four years old now, and that's about the limit for a battery that only gets used once in a while. You could take it to nearly any Auto Parts Store and they could test it for you...
You'd be surprised how much the stock exhaust system weighs that is eliminated. I'd bet it weighs at least 20 pounds, if not more. Plus the performance of a better-flowing exhaust and not to mention the improved sound, an under-tunnel exhaust is worth the trouble in my opinion. The only drawback...
I agree. I have a Excell Mtn under-tunnel exhaust and it's fairly loud, especially above 6000 RPMs. And, like powder muncher states, it's louder to the rear of the sled.
300 miles, finished with 'Break-in' mode. Not one blown belts so far (knock on wood) and the sled is still INCREDIBLE. Best Mountain sled I've ever ridden! No mods, none needed in my opinion. As a rider, I will never catch-up to the potential of this sled. It's way better than I'll ever be. So...
Very nice job! It looks a lot better than mine!
Two problems I've run into with mine. It's pretty loud and I'm not sure if it will pass the new Colorado regs. Second, in super deep snow, the sled bogs badly because the sled has trouble ejecting exhaust gases through the snow. Your pipe ejects...
First Ride Review!!!
OK Boys and Girls, here's the inside Scoop on the new Summit 800 Etech AND the new Polaris ProRMK Assault (with Powder Track)!!
I picked-up my new Black Beauty (2011 Summit X 163" 800 Etech) on Tuesday morning before Thanks Giving. Because I Snow Checked her last Spring...
Guys and Gals, I am not completely giving-up on Yamaha. But in light of the fact that Yamaha has given-up on their 'Big Gun' mountain sled (Apex), I'm simply going to test the waters of SkiDoo's new 800 Etech. I have already had the chance to ride the 2011 proto-type this past season and I LOVED...
I ride my 4 Stroke for many reasons, among them easy maintenance, longevity, reliability, ect. But the MAIN two reasons I don't like 2 Strokes are the smell and smoke and up until recently, every two stroke I rode felt like I was riding a big chainsaw. The Vibration, the Noise, the Instability...
Last time I checked, a stock Apex Mtn and Nytro MTX both come with a sway bar. And if you think a Nytro MTX and a Summit 'feel the same' then you're not riding in very deep snow. The Nytro is not a bad machine by any means, but a 2008-2011 stock Summit will carve circles around a stock Nytro MTX...
It's worth it if the majority of your riding is off-trail in search of deep snow. The weight loss and the better hook-up of the track will vastly improve the sled's deep snow ability, especially since you already have the better track installed. Gen II skis will help the front end get up on the...
I also agree... Although I bought mine new, I too shaved off about 100#'s and it now is an incredible sled in the powder. Buying a used Apex IS a great platform to mod, but the price of them just went up because Yamaha isn't making them anymore... I guess you could buy a post 2010 short track...
"That which does not kill you only makes you stronger"... I believe in that theory as well. However, most Newbies DON"T understand this theory. And like you said, I'm the one who gets to help them get unstuck, which cuts into my carving time. The bottom line is if they're not having FUN, and...
I will do my duty and keep everyone here informed of my new venture out of the 'Blue Zone' when I bring home the new Summit next Fall. My heart truely lives and breathes Yamaha, and this decision was not easy, but Yamaha made the decision to drop the Apex, and therefore they dropped me as well...
I'm not bashing Yamaha in any way, shape, or form. As I already stated, I am a True Blue believer. You talk about your RX1 being a great sled, and I agree, I still have and will keep my Apex. But the point is this, I haven't given up on Yamaha, they've given up on me by cutting the Apex Mtn from...
If it turns out to be a POS, then so be it. That's what warranties and second sleds (my Apex) are for. But let's face it, SkiDoo is on the cutting edge of Mtn Snowmobile Technology. The Yamaha Mtn Apex is just cut. So I'm willing to give them a chance and reward them for being so forward...
