If you keep the air shock on the front of the skid, 75 psi is way too low to correctly balance the sled and lighten the front end. I run 125+ in my BTX. Don't be afraid to try more!
Finally reached my limit blowing belts on a 2017 stock tune 153x2.25 BTX. Tried all the tricks discussed here - Swapped out my secondary with the wife's Viper MTX button secondary.
The helix has been cut for overdrive, so I think it might coil bind the stock Viper spring.
What helix and...
A 2.25 power claw is surprisingly versatile if you plan crossover use at all. The wide 40" front end is difficult at best to pull over in all but deep powder. The skinny mountain front requires shorter shocks also. The stock 2016 mountain skis can be skinnied up a couple inches over the stock...
Btx is suprisingly good on trail. Off trail is obvious .
The 137 has trail skid, zero weight transfer, trail width front, etc. Basically horrible off trail.
I have only tried the stock 8jp belt. Thought about trying an 8dn, but the harder compound will likely raise rpm, and ive added 4.5g to the stock weights above factory setting and she still revs way too high - near 9200. 1100 miles and a 2.5" trail muffler.
Which ultimax belt do you suggest...
Before i start a new thread, your not alone. Im experiencing the same issues blowing belts on a 17 BTX LE with the 2.25. I could blow a belt everyday if riding hard in deep snow. My secondary offset is 60mm, middle of spec.
Sled has stock tune, good primary and secondary rollers, orange TP...
I would say go for the 141. More tolerant to low snow and trails plus better stability. Unless pointed uphill in truly deep snow or trying to hold a steep sidehill - the 141 will suprise you where it can go with a 2.25.
My personal opinion, throw that suggestion chart posted above in the trash. I tried it and it worked terrible, sled felt like a 900lb tank. Those suggestions were for a 2 stroke likely. Think about it, the #1 sidewinder mod is a 180lb center shock spring for the standard shock models. Why...
I have the same 17 btx with the evol air shocks all around. I weigh 215 and found that about 125 psi in the main chamber of the center shock really helps balance the chassis for off trail riding and lightens the front.
Just rode 5 days straight in Revelstoke BC with 2 strokes and bikes in...
Got the same sled, its got 21/49 gears and 7t drivers, aka full mountain setup. If u shave track, could probably pull 24/45 gearing all day and save factory chain. Otherwise u might see 80mph with a cut helix!
Unless you weigh over 300lbs, 150# in the rear rear shock seems way high. I run 120ish and weigh over 210. It rarely bottoms and I'm not afraid to jump it - 16 mtx 141. I'd say shock is blown.
Cat has been taking 5 lbs a yr off their 800 for years until last year when they stripped 10-15 off with the ascender updates. The viper could lose 20 easily with some of these same parts bin changes.
On second thought, a 998 makes more sense as a 110hp ish option, make the 1049 more of a...
We're all aware the viper is due for a refresh in 19. Hard to believe it's been 5 yrs! Just a version of the new plastics and style wouldn't be all that exciting, but they could add the new clutches, headlight, and weight saving tricks cat intro'ed on the 18 cat M sleds for starters.
Could...
What is your elevation? At home under 2000' I needed more primary tip weight and also switched to a 43 Deg cut helix. For elevation above 8000 you need the stock 37 Deg helix to keep rpms correct in deep snow under high load. You'll hit rev limiter on hardback, however.
Different skids for each model is part of yammies problem. Everyone else has 1 or 2 skids calibrated for different models properly and efficiently.
Monoshock, now singleshot for old jap models, unique phazer skid, nytro had unique skid. Viper models all based on single cat trail or mtn...
