Dreaded Chain Case Crack Got Me!

As if it the short season wasn't bad enough, I got dinged by the fatal flex crack that seems to be happening to those that have logged over 9,000 miles. I have been lucky with some due diligence as well. Keep bearings greased, constantly check chain case and drive shaft each year for wear and...

Max Spool 17 vs. Max Spool 20

Is there a big jump ( seat of the pants feel) between these two? I have the bundle and have never switched to 20. Plan on it it next weekend. Of course using 94 octane, plus octane boost to be safe etc. I will be hampered with original fuel pump but I'm ok with that. Everything else has been...

    Need Some Expertise

I was up in Quebec this past weekend....yes in the extreme cold. -26 the night we arrived. Next morning all sleds started fine. Did have a problem for the first time sine I have owned it. I know its been discussed, but I'm trying to eliminate going down a rabbit hole. I have ridden in extreme...

Remember the filter outerwear sock for Cold Air Intake !!!!

Just came back from QC trip. Fast running excellent trails in the Lanaudierre Region ( best IMO). Buddy was running his AC 9000 sled middle of the pack as usual, until he gets his groove on and takes off past everyone. Tuned sled. Has run it for three years with zero issues. Lots of snow dust...

    Apex Still Awesome!

While some may think this belongs on the Apex forum, I don't. I kept my 2011 Apex because as we all know the quality, reliability and smoothness of the Japanese built Yamahas made me hang on, despite loving my Sidewinder. So, is it a back up? Yeah for a few years. A few friends sleds broke down...

    Apex Tunnel Flairs...do they exist?

I have tunnel flairs on my sidewinder and they work fantastic. My 2011 Apex covers my backside with snow from the base of my helmet down, due to the vortices created at high speed. My gear is of course water proof but it would nice to not have to deal with it a stops. I'm thinking of trying to...

My Realistic Look at sled issues

I felt compelled to post this after hearing once again, how our choice of sleds (Yamaha ) have all these issues and other manufacturers( ski doo in this case) are just gas and go. Not bashing as I think all manufacturers make great products, but consider the following: I ride and have owned...

Need Advice 2017 RTX LE Maintenance

So my season has come to an end. Approximately 2,500 miles. Absolutely no issues at all save for a brief revers code attributed to the XS belt. Speaking of which NO BELT ISSUES for an entire season. Whoohooo!!! That's with a TD Max 17 tune. Do to help from, Thunder Products, Hurricane...

    Wierd SD-08 Issue

I know this topic has been beat to death but something weird happened. Wondering if someone could make sense of it. So my last trip the SD-08 came in when trying to go into reverse after long ride. It didn't the first try so I inched forward and then it went. Happened again next day .... same...

Any One Using Heat Cover on Turbo

There are some quality after market ones available. Not to sure if it is a good/bad idea. Just seems a lot of the car/truck turbos have the heat shield to keep heat contained. Any thoughts? Since it didn't come with one is it better to let fresh air run over it?

    Hot Foot Anyone?

Just curious. Anyone experience more than normal heat coming from the muffler side. The last tw rides I experienced the old hot foot you used to get from the old phasers. Is the muffler shot?

    TD Max Spool 17 ....Great!

Put 500 fast miles on with this tune. I pushed the sled hard. No knock light. 91 octane with Amsoil octane boost. Best mpg yet. Pulls like crazy. Ran necklace an neck with Cat 9000 with same set up and 3 inch exhaust. Ben and Mike are great to work with. Great customer service. Only bad part was...

    Yamaha Admits Clutch Issue....Sort of.

There is an excellent article about the SRX in the fall issue of Onsnow Magazine. In addition, there is a great interview with Jaret Smith, Yamaha Snowmobile Product Planner. Kudos to OSM for asking questions we have been dealing with on this forum, including the skis. Here’s a sample response...

    Sidewinder vs. Apex

There has been much lamenting about how Yamaha put an end to the Apex and should have refined, tweaked, adjusted.... whatever. But for those calling for a new Japan built machine, which I can truly understand, I can not, however, see the logic in the Apex faithful. Believe me I was one of those...

Last Ride Ends With Awesome Day

So I went on my last ride, wanting to enjoy mid March riding in Quebec with daylight savings time. Lots of snow and great trails in the Lanaudierre region. We were informed of a demo ride and fundraising event at Le Cabanon, a popular snowmobile destination on Lac Stanilas. Maybe 20o sleds...

    New SRX Specs Possible Fit?

New 2019 SRX has lowered ride height without sacrificing ride compliance according to marketing. Looks like only difference is dual rate springs on front shocks ( ala Hy Gear Set Up) and dual rate torsion springs. Wondering if we can change those on our winders. I would expect flatter cornering...

    Gaspe and 2nd Season

Second season on Winder, TD PT and other clutching upgrades and very satisfied with sled and TY vendors. TD, TP and Dalton great stuff. Now getting 1800 miles on belts too, verses the unexpected blow. Maybe a few more rides but just ended a 4 day trip to Gaspe. One blown belt after towing a...

Heated Seat Fail on LE Model

Not that big of a deal but heated seat failed to work when I needed it most this year at -22 recently. Worked fine last year. Wiring looks good. No fuse for it so it must be direct connect to switch. Does the switch go bad? Again no big deal but I have so it might as well work properly.

    My Upgrade Combination Review

Just got back from a frigid two day ride. Temps as low as -15f. Due to some belt blowing issues last year and a clutch feel that was not as smooth as advertised, I decided to make some changes based on some assistance by several great vendors and others on TY. Unfortunately, or, fortunately, I...
