03 RX1 running like crap

My buddy picked up an 03 RX1 a month ago and it ran great. We pulled it in the garage and tore it all apart to do a couple of mods. got it done today and ready to take to his new house and we lost the tach and it back fires bogs and misses like crazy it don't want to idle. I first thought it was bad gas because the tach was working. if anyone has had this problem or any idea as to why this could be doing this HELP

what did you do for mods

nothing to the motor other than the spark plugs. we did a Apex seat and put a gutted exhaust on also put a handle bar riser on. we had all the wires on the bars apart

Also, when we initially fired it up, she purred for about 10 minutes until we went to put in on the trailer, that's when it didn't want to excellerate and bogged down. It was ideling at around 1700 RPM's and once it started bogging down, it stayed right around 1000 RPM's and even stalled out. If I remember right, when we revved it up, its bog down or not even rev up and I do remember once we let go of the gas, it would idel out just right again....Help please!! Snow is coming sooooon!...

If its idiling ok and all you did was plugs I would check your T.O.R.S sounds like it may be limiting throtle make sure throtle cable is adjusted properly. If you search here you will find info to check tors and set throtle cable.

it is not TORS but i will check it again along with throtle cable. thanks for the ideas

How much of a riser and did you put a longer cable on? Did the problem start when you turned the bars?

have you checked the wires in the nose under the glove box? could be a bad battery connection as well.

it happens all the time just sitting on the ground. I was thinking that I may have a bad spark plug boot/boot's. we did go with a 5 in riser but we have a 05 Mtn cable on the sled and more than enough slop in it to not pull when fully turned.

I've heard they backfire when the exhaust donuts go bad, could something have happened when the gutted exhaust went on?

The 03 were known to rub a wire under the tool box by the frame check it out.

That sounds like the culprit thanks sled dog I will check it out

Check the ing. switch wire gray I think under the tank cowl that was also known to cause problems.

Will it go if you give it some choke??

it is acting like a short out it will run ok one min and the next it will sputter and pop. and the choke don't do nothing for it. I can hold it full throttle when it is running bad and it don't change the idol much. also the dash is out no lights no tach nothing
