TIGHTEN IT WITH WRENCH TILL YOU CANT TIGHTEN ANY MORE. TOO MANY PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT TORQUE ON A BOLTS. WE ARE NOT BUILDING ENGINES HERE OR SPACE CRAFT.

Thanks for the torque number.....
Thanks for the torque number.....
Wow, that is kinda a bold statement. While I do agree that certain parts are not nearly as vital to have a specific torque(like this part), to say tighten until you can not tighten anymore can be way off base. Pretty sure I could strip or break that bolt off, and pretty sure my daughter would have a hard time getting the 54 ft lbs. Common sense should rule most times. Wasnt tryin g to be a smart #*$&@. Just pointing out to many people go by torque specs for putting something back together that is not neccessary. Bee a heavy equipment mechanic for 27 years and never once had a bolt come off or apart vevre by not using a torque wrench. Buildin g a n engine or Transmission is a different story where there is a lot of critical compopnents that can distort due to wrong torque.
Doubt you could break or strip that bolt with a box end wrench by hand, johnson bar yes but wrench no.

I stripped the axle on my 06 few years ago, got my lbs and nm mixed up on torque wrench and over tightened it

I don't get why anybody would get on someones case for actually doing something correctly. One persons "tight" is different from the next, but 54ft/lbs is 54ft/lbs.
