Hello everyone.

Sled finally hit 11k and along with it a semi large repair in order. I heard a backfire (assumed donuts), ripped the sled down and found a broken flex pipe. After further investigation I found that all the rivets pulled through the tunnel that support the bracket for the Y-pipes and left the whole exhaust system with no support. Anyone else dealt with this issue? I was thinking of drilling the holes out and just replacing with bolts/nylon lockers but will these clear the gas tank above?

Thanks!

I just went through that. I think that you have to stick to rivets. Some spots there is not a lot of clearance under the tunnel where the rivets are right above the pipes. All the holes on mine were worn and I used a 3/16" ss washer to back up the rivet. The Yamaha multi grip rivets are the best (but expensive) the way that they compress and you will need them in the tight spots under there. The multi grip from Sled Toyz work alright but not as good (they don't fold over or compress as nicely). If those are loose you might want to check the rivets in that area that join the tunnel to the bulkhead. I had to replace most of mine.

I drilled out the rivets holding that bracket when I changed my donuts because I could not get one of the Allen cap Screws free. I reinstalled the bracket with bolts and Nylock nuts and only six of them. It's been that way fine for 4000 miles.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am leaning more towards the bolts and nylocks, did you have any issues with clearance of the gas tank above?

did my brothers 04 with 5/16" button head screws and nylocks, put the nuts in the tunnel and had no clearance or wear issues. i did use bolt cutters to make sure i had them trimmed close to the nuts too.
