I am looking for some gearing suggestions for my 08 MTX. Its currently stock (which is 20/40 *I think*) I have done some searches on the site but have been unsuccessful.

I only ride out west. I was thinking 18 top and leaving the stock 40 on bottom. Will this work with the stock chain? Is there a better setup to run?

Thanks in advance.

Im running the 18/40 with the stock chain and it works well. I know alot of people run the 19/40. Ive never ran the 19/40 so i can't comment on which one works better.

Awesome Thanks! ;)!

Alright on to the next question i guess... Are the Phazer and Nytro gears interchangable? In other words i have a 18t top gear off a phazer will it work on the 08 Nytro MTX

Phazer gears are smaller (narrower), and require a different chain.

With my 144x15x2.5 I've ran 20/40, 19/40, and 18/40. I'm currently running 19/40. I didn't like 18/40, I'm not exactly sure how to explain it but the sled felt like it revved up too quick.

Ran 19/40 on my 153" MTX over 4000ft but ran 21/40 0-4000ft.
Both set ups worked great; the 21/40 was used mainly on trails but worked fine off trail.

I guess I should specify as well, I will be running a 153 x 2.25 Attack 20 (got a deal on it).

Thanks for the input guys..

Running 18/40 on stock chain myself, can't comment on 19 since I went straight to the 18 after she got broke in. Big improvement for me in the heavy Pac NW pooh.

I do a fair bit of trail riding with my MTX... will the 21/40 help with fuel economy???

Maybe a little better fuel economy but the main reason was to help keep up on the long straight stretches of trail with the short tracks I rode with. I was also running a cut down track so the sled was not having to rotate so much weight.
