16-17 Rear Shock Info

So far the upgraded fox is better. I would say it is as good or better than my 07 mono with a revalved shock. The comp and rebound adjustments have a greater range than the mono did. the set up instructions were spot on with air pressure to my weight and sit in sag specs.
I am sure the elka could be valved better and a coil spring would be more reliable than air.
Over all the new fox is many times better than the shock that came on the sled, now I like my machine.

Just to update this post if you are a 2016/2017 Vector or 2016 Apex owner and were looking to upgrade your sled to this new Fox Float Evol RC Single-Shot shock it is now available through the parts division as an accessory for MSRP of $499.99 and even though I'm sure plenty feel this should be a free upgrade realistically this offer for this shock at that price is a great deal/offer from Yamaha for anyone wanting to upgrade their sled from their stock rear shock.

Porta parts---Why should I owner of a 16 apex have to fork out 499 dollars when my buddy who has a 17 apex gets his shock upgrade for free? That is not fair or a great deal/offer from Yamaha. Should treat everbody equally and fairly.

This is not a question I can directly answer for you as I am not corporate Yamaha but being that the corporate letter stated just 2017 Apex owners could receive this upgrade for free my speculation is that with their being a low number of 2017 Apex's produced and the majority of those were preseason orders from last spring - maybe this shock was already in the works for that model but didn't make it in time for preseason and Yamaha felt overall that with the small number of 2017 Apexs built they could offer this to those customers (again majority preseason buyers) who bought the top of the line flagship Japanese built model. Either way IMO it is an awesome gesture on their part to offer it to those 2017 Apex owners (they surely weren't promised it nor bought it thinking it would have this level of high end shock) and I believe pricing the retail for that shock at $499.99 is also an awesome price for a shock that when compared to other models Fox makes with compression/rebound/remote reservoir/huge evol chamber could easily have been priced in the $750-1000 range.

I agree, the reason Yamaha is offering the upgrade shock is they put the wrong shock on a premium priced sled to the tune of $17,000 plus for a 16 Apex xtx LE here in Canada, owners should have a top of the line ride for that money that's why we buy the LE model, Yamaha did not want to issue a recall just a bulletin because the shock is to harsh and can't be adjusted right, there should of been the top of the line fox rear shock that money can buy that is fully adjustable on these models for what money they sell them for, so by all means this upgraded shock should be offered free for the 16and 17 year models with the single shot rear suspension no questions asked!!!!

You do realize at the time the 2016 Apex's were built the new Singleshot Fox Float RC style shock wasn't designed or even on option at that point - does that mean every time suspension technology advances and a new and better shock is built that every model back should get the new shock for free...??? If so I got an 03 RX-1 LE that sure could use some updated shocks to ride like the best after all I paid top of the line money for it when I bought it...

YES! When you pay big money for a premium sled you are paying for the best for performance, handling and RIDE COMFORT! not something half arse, i'm almost sure Yamaha tests these suspensions before they offer the new tech to the public, the person that tested these shocks on the single shot suspension and gave the thumbs up for plushness must of been on crack! they even said in the new Yamaha model mag for 2016 how plush the shock was in the new le single shot suspension, if you paid big money for a Caddy that rode like a rubber block suspension found on a dump truck you would not be a happy and would expect the problem to be addressed

I have a 15 apex and 16 apex le(spring order). The ride difference between the two is so different. I ride the 15 more than the 16 while trying to get yamaha to give me a better shock for the last year. Still waiting for the dealer to call with good info regarding changing the shock on the rear skid finally.

As a consumer purchasing a high dollar sled I for onw would expect what the sled is suppose to do as good as the model it replaced. As we all know that is was not any way near to be proper, except for maybe a 400lbs rider. To open your wallet and spend 499, I would spend a little more and get a stage 4 elka for 699. I might anyway in the future, when the air fox fails.

I got a phone call from my dealer that my new upgraded shock is on its way for my 16 apex covered under warranty. I am responsible for the cost of installation. Thanks for the positive input .

Good for you, mine also is on the way, by the sound of some of the reviews of some of the sled owners on here that received the updated shock it has made quite a difference in the ride compared to the stock shock.

I can't wait to try it out if we get ridable snow. I am glad they had this shock in stock.
The weather conditions here are not good, lost most of our snow base( 3.5 feet) to mild weather and rain this past week kinda looking like next year to test drive the updated shock, but a lot can happen in 24 hours on this coast as far as snow goes.

First of all if I may jump in on this I understand you work for port Yamaha which by the way is a great company to deal with but between the factory and the dealers you guys are passing the buck around it's not rocket science the shocks are no good and they shouldn't have been put in the snowmobiles in the first place so the obvious thing to do would be to replace them all and not dance around the subject I know you were making an example with the 03 RX 1 but we're not talking about a 14 year difference were talking about less than 1 year.
