2.52 vs 2.86 pitch, really.... which is better for top end?

My 16 apex has the 2.86 set up. It's time once again to replace the track. It's got me thinking.
I would like to know from someone that has been down this road that has compared the two drives.
Same length, same sled, same tack model.
I know 2.86 tracks are generally lighter, by that nature should be faster. I just somehow think the old pitch is faster. It must be cheaper to manufacture 2.86 tracks.
