Yam released their 2004 jet ski lineup today and they have upped the MR-1 engine to 1052 cc fitted with direct injection fuel injection putting out 160 hp. It sure would be nice to see this motor in the 2005 RX-1 and Warrior. Considering I can keep up with firekitties and every 800 out there now, this would really rain on their parade.

New motor
It would be nice. But a little too late for me.

You don't need that motor to beat a Firecat!!!!!!!!!!!
Your right Jason, all ya really need is a book of matches, to light the "trail" in the snow lol

Poo has 150hp twin turbo four-stroke water craft engine available today. When, not if, Poo releases that engine for a sled, Yam will need to be ready with a counter engine that is better.

I just check the Doo web site and it sounds like they got a hot engine on the water too. Below is from their web site. So maybe we should hope for something well beyond the MX-1
Another Sea•Doo watercraft first and only. Introducing the 185hp, GTX†4-TEC™ SUPERCHARGED. It’s big. It’s bad. And it’s got a bright red blower. Behold the GTX†4-TEC Supercharged, the industry’s first and only supercharged watercraft. With 185 horsepower and zero lag (unlike a turbocharger, our supercharger is always on) it’s the most powerful, highest performance production watercraft you can buy. Throw in our closed-loop cooling system, a 16-function LCD info center and a list of standard features longer than your arm, in two eye-popping paint jobs – Yellow or Viper Red – and the GTX†4-TEC Supercharged isn’t just in a class of its own, it’s starting a whole new school.

The supercharged doo is the fastest 3 seater on the water but cannot top end the 165 hp Yam GP 1300R two stroke unless it is in rough water. Knowing Sea Doos terrible reputation for quality in their watercraft I would be leary to ever rely on a supercharged Doo motor. The MR-1 at 160 will be bulletproof in all riding conditions while I would be crossing my fingers on that 185 hp Doo motor when the temp dropped down to zero.

Valid point. I do not know much about water craft because those things are illegal in Switzerland. I just watch the trends because the Poo, Doo, and Yam tend to leverage engine designs across multiple product lines. I am hoping that the trends in the water craft divisions develop in the snowmobile product lines, resulting in us getting faster and more hp motors.
I suppose they don't have the rear skid issue though on the water craft products.

Suisse, that is ironic that you mention the rear skid issue on the water because Yamaha Jet Skis are notorious for not being able to "hook up" in rough water and usually get beaten out of the hole but will top end almost everything out there in smooth water. Kind of sounds like their sleds, doesn't it?

That is hilarious about Yammy's rear skid on water craft. I never would have thought that, but yes, it is interesting that they have same problems on water as they do on snow.
Some day I hope to meet the Yamaha guy/gal that is responsible for the rear skid and ask them what the hell gives? The trade magazines and this board have complained about the rear skid for years now without any significant changes. Oh well, maybe 2010 we will see something better.

SwissSledder your info on the polaris watercraft engine is wrong it should read that the new engine is a twin cylinder 750cc single turbo.

Got my Poo info off of their web site. I just checked their web site again and it now says a 150 hp HO turbo four-stroke. Here is the link below. Wouldn't want to mislead anybody  Regardless, having Poo put some pressure on Yamaha to release a turbo is a good thing.
