Talked to my dealer ( PowerWheels of Truro) up here in NS Canada on Saturday. Had his 05 RX1 on a Dyno-Mite Clutch dyno and it went 146.3 hp! Brand new with no miles.
I had my 180 hp Rich Daly \ Dynoport built 809 Rotax on this same dyno at Fundy Power Sports and know the set up and operator to be accurate and the results reproducible.
Maybe this four-stroke thing is going to be OK after all. I started with 132hp with my triple and $$5500 Canadian later had the 180hp! Will the same money net me 34 more horses with this engine? 146 has gotta be a good place to start!

You should be able to get a turbo for that much coin and have more than 200 hp.

I've heard that the engine will have more hp after 1,000 miles or so. What do you guys think it will be, 155, 158?

NS eh? low altitude = high horsepower.
It should get into the low 150's when fully broken in. Altitude effects are much more pronounced than one would expect, as a result, a lot of people have been complaining about it hitting only the mid 130's when its claimed 145-150, which is, of course, at SEA LEVEL (as everything else is measured standard, since its the place where the greatest power can be made by any naturally aspirated engine).

I have dynoed many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many RX1's. They make 132 to 136 HP is stock condition. Did I say that I dynoed many of them?
Other things that are important is how the dynorun was conducted. Did the dyno operator over rev the engine and come in the back door on the power? Was the engine accelerated up from low RPM to high RPM? Did the operator use a manual or computer load device. Was the engine manually accelerated or accelerated with a computer? Was torque measured using a strain guage? What were the correction factors for weather? Post the ambient air temperature, absolute barometer and relative humidity here and I will tell you what the CF should have been. If the CF was more than 1.04, I would raise an eyebrow at the very least.

I hate it when people that know what they are talking about add their 2 cents

It would be nice if it made 145hp with 75 of NOS you'd be about 220 hp. but if it's 135 210 is still a nice figure!!!
You can do that for about 1100.00 Canadian!!!!! Hell for 2 grand you could have 2 or 3 bottles and a refill station plus your NOS kit.

Jeez, stop bothering him LB. If he has to stop working on my sled to answer your question, I will never get my sled back.LOL...........Cubby

Yikes I'm in over my head! All those years of university and I'm still amazed at how little useful knowledge I have! ( I used to joke with Rich down at Dynoport that clutch tuning was more complex than anything I ever learned in medical school!!)
Supertuner, you would know more about this than me but I'll try to clarify things a bit. I did'nt see the 05 RX dyno run but I assume the same setup was used this year as last when Ray (tuner at Fundy) did my FIII and I saw them do a Bender 03 RX1 the same way when I was in to pick up my sled on one other occasion.
The set up was a Land and Sea clutch Dyno-Mite. Manual accelerator and load device. I'm not sure what a strain gauge is but I did'nt see any other device on the sled or feed into their computer station. Intake air was ambient air in the dyno room ( at room temp presumably, not fresh outside air ), exhaust was routed outside in a rather crude and not entirely tight fashion ( Rich wandered about the effect of this for obvious reasons ). I'm uncertain re the determination of a correction factor given the other variables.
I will get the dyno printout from my dealer or have Ray do my RX1 for interest sake when time allows!
I know Rich Daly has done some dyno testing on this motor (American Snowmobiler, Dec 02) and found peak power to be 135 to 137hp. I thought I had read somewhere that Yamaha had found a little more power for this year.

Either way you really need to compare a similiar sled on the same dyno to really have any usefull info. How much power does a REV 800 or XC800 make on the same dynos???
