Last year we bought a 2006 RS venture for my dad to get him out riding and enjoying life. Sled only has 1050 miles on it. Last winter after riding it for about almost 200 miles total it started to intermittently miss on 1 cylinder then 2 then pretty soon had no spark at all. Right away when it was missing on 1 we replaced a ignition coil but that didn't help. After it had no spark we replaced the pickup coil because that seemed like it could have been the problem from the research I did, still nothing so we let it sit all summer. We started working on it a couple weeks ago. We broke down and bought a new cdi box (almost $800 with tax). It started up ran a little rough so we drained the gas and cleaned the carbs. Started it and still had a miss. Swapped out 1 of the ignition coils with the aftermarket one we had bought and ran perfect..... for 1 mile then dropped 1 cylinder then 2 then all 3. No spark. Everything seems to have power as we tested with a multimeter so we are at a loss for what could be wrong. The only wiring issues we have found have been in the handle bars where a mouse chewed on a few wires for hand warmers and lights but we coated them with liquid tape. Any help would be appreciated because we would really like to enjoy the snow while it's here.

Pilots jets are a problem and get plugged really easy and it cant make it run really bad like your loosing cylinders. Are you sure there is no spark at all?

Do not use aftermarket here. You will need to find another ECU.

Bad Stater or a short could fry it too.

With respect, I don't think so. I had a customer that learned this the hard way. He brought it to me to figure out, but he hadn't told me that the spark coils had been swapped with RX-1 coils. Took me a while to figure out, but its the wrong coils causing the ECU to fail.Bad Stater or a short could fry it too.
Sometimes the aftermarket list the same coils for these sleds, but they do not interchange.

I had a short take out a ECU on an srx in the past. I would not say its not possible but your perspective could be spot on in this case.

A
It was already running like crap before anything was changed out. The ignition coil didn't change anything when put in the first time. The pickup coil was changed after it didn't run at all the first. Could the stator be sending too much juice through the system once it is running at higher rpm? We changed the ECU and it idled rough then it idled perfect after changing an ignition coil out for the aftermarket one we had. Then we brought the sled home from the neighbors shop then dead. We decided we are bringing it to the dealer to look at it. Probably will be expensive but our time is worth something.I had a short take out a ECU on an srx in the past. GL, but I can say with 100% certainty that the wrong spark plug coils will cause the ECU to fail.
