2008 Nytro Mtx

I did the ratchet strap method last time.

swelly we need to get together and ride sometime. I really would like to try the skinz out and gen3 skis. I just do not make it that way much but would make the exception!!!

I am in Anchorage all winter. Was just up in your neck of the woods today riding. (I only fish part time any more, want to save my back for riding)

I pulled the Gen 3's off. I should just let you try em.

Loved em on the old front end. I need to experiment with pulling a carbide and just running one.

The trail manors are fantastic, on the skis. IMO they just have a little too much bite with the Skinz front end.

IF we can ever hook up, you are more than welcome to ride my sled.

I think my sled will appreciate the Gen 3's a little more when I add the boost.

So I am looking for opinions right now. I have a 2008 Mtx 153 with upgrades of course. I have Timbersled skid, Cat challenger track, Avids, Betterboards, Floats up front, Oft Steering relocate and Roest skid plate.

So would I be better off adding say the Mcx 180 kit or maybe the MPI turbo and the skinz front or upgrade to a 2013 162 with 180 kit??

Easier to make payment then spend 6k.

I took my 09 and did the same thing. I basically said to myself if I sink a bunch of money into the Timbersled rear end, Skinz front end and really enjoy then I would boost. Well, the handling was great so I just put am MPI 180 kit in and this thing rocks! Hopefully Drew will order a few more for next season. I happen to come across a left over on EBay and got a fairly good deal. I don't have patience for detail so I had Drew install and he did a great job. The MCX would have been nice but for the $ difference I am very happy with the MPI. Oh, and the lag people ask about? I'm still looking for it.

I can get you hooked up with anything you need my friend. We are an Mcx dealer, also have the clutching nailed on these things so out of the gates you will love it. There is a member on here that just took his 180 kit out and put the smack down on his buddy that traded his nytro for a pro and I bet his buddy is regretting the switch. Ill let him chime in on that though.

I won't pick on my buddy. He is very happy with the Pro but there is no doubt that the boosted Nytro has got a power advantage. I thought about a Pro and then rode his and came to the conclusion it wasn't worth all the hype. It is great handling out of the box but other than it being lighter, that's it. I figured out that it's 95% rider anyhow. I wish the upgrades weren't necessary and so expensive on the Nytro but I am very pleased nonetheless and feel like this sled will work for years to come.

Financially speaking, that new purchase will stay with you a lot longer than a cash purchase/upgrade, but that's just my .02. Banks can eat my shorts, not my cash.

Can anyone chime on the difference between the MPI and MCX it seems like the boost/fuel controller of the MCX is a bit better but if the MPI compares in performance then maybe that would be a better route for myself as well.

One thing is that the MCX will compensate for altitude with boost and fuel. Kind of like a Ronco Roaster, set it and forget it.

I think with the MPI you will have to adjust a controller as you change in elevation.

Drew(hyflyr) I am sure can really shed the light on the differences. He rides with a MCX if you know what I mean.

Kevin, there are a few key advantages I believe in the mcx kit versus the mpi, but with that said there is nothing really wrong with the mpi as it works just fine.
To start though the mcx fuel box is, well, awesome! It doesn't have any game boy buttons to push, any need to adjust or anything like that, you plug and play. It takes baro setting into account and alters the boost accordingly as you go up or down in altitude so you maintain a true 180 without having to adjust boost or fuel settings. With that said though turbos dont need a whole lot of adjusting as they are very forgiving in the fact they use a wastegate in the first place and use exhaust gas to spin. Now with a supercharger thats a whole other ball game, just stay away in my opinion unless your a trail rider and even then I dont like them.
Secondly, the charge tube is 18" shorter on the mcx versus the mpi and is internally cooled where as the mpi is just a aluminum pipe. This means quicker spool up and cooler temps. Not a huge deal but does make a difference.

They both use mitsubishi turbos so thats a wash however the way they are mounted in my eyes makes a difference. The mpi kit uses some type of diesel exhaust muffler or something, sounds different if you ask me, just a personal opinion though, I like the sound of the mcx better. I also like the exhaust coming out the back because it makes a great hand warmer and a little less tunnel ice when I compared the two . Again, on the mcx the turbo is mounted and welded to the header much closer than the mpi which means quicker spool, I think.
The whole electic pump thing kills me too on the mpi. Yeah it works but personally Ill take a mechanical pump anyday, no worries about it not working or losing connection or breaking a wire or something silly. I think they(mpi) went that way though was for easy installation purposes, as the mechanical is a little harder and time consuming to install.

With all that being said, there isnt anything wrong with the mpi kit as there are a bunch out there and all working great. If it were me and my money though and I was wanting to purchase one knowing what I do, it would be a mcx without a doubt. Now if I was looking for a new sled with boost, its hard to beat the 1500 dollar deal yamaha is offering for a turbo sled and would certainly take one.

im getting an mcx 180 kit put on at the end of this month. yes it is more expensive, but i like the gas and go idea especially since it will be my first turbo.

So when running the mcx180 kit, can you run just super unleaded pump gas, or do you need to mix race fuel? How much does it normally cost to install a turbo setup?

yes the mcx 180 will run on 91 pump gas. cost is going to depend on alot of things, what kit, are you doing it yourself, clutching setups, what gauges, ect.

dose it fit on 08 mtx?

Yes, it should fit being's it's a 3.0 pitch track.

So I have decided upgrade header, air box mod, spark plugs and pcv all thanks to Rick at OFT for procuring all parts.

I ultimately decided this because I devolped an exhaust leak at the end of last year. I found the weld for the bracket of the header had failed.

I got it all put together tonight and now I am finding an oil leak from bottom of oil tank but I can not see any cracks.

I am anxious to ride it and get the clutch dialed in to see how it will perform.
