Hi all,
I just bought a 2011 Apex SE with just over 12 miles (not dealer bought). The owner purchased the sled from a friend (new) but didn't put any miles on the sled - I believe they rode it on a logging road to test drive it. They didn't ride all last season and it's been parked in their garage. This is my first Yamaha and 4 stroke (I have ridden Polaris prior) and I have a few questions if you don't mind:
1. Seeing that only 12 miles are on the odometer, would you change the oil prior to running this season? Or would you change after this season?
2. How difficult is it to change the oil on the Apex?
3. Although I trust the seller in the miles, there are a few scratches on the sled. Although the rest of the sled looks mint, are there any key signs that would indicate they have rolled back the odometer, e.g. normal wear and tear I should look for?
4. Besides changing the oil every season, what other key maintanence can I expect for the Yamaha?
5. Also, besides changing the slides to Dupont, are there any other key issues I should expect from the 2011 Apex SE? How has your EPS and Air Float shocks held up?
Thanks very much all, I'm excited to ride Yamaha this year! (even though the rest of my group are on Polaris).

I don't believe it is possible to roll the odometers back, but I could be wrong?
A newer odometer could have been installed, which is easy to do but check the track for wear as that will ususally tell you if the mileage is true or not?
I would also assume the sled still has warranty?
If it has sat for a whole year then I would change the oil and filter, but that's me.
And no, it's not that easy but not that difficult either.
Lots of links/info in the Tech heading above this section.
Good luck and welcome to the site.
Also look over the sled very carefully for other signs of manipulation as you seem to be concerned if these guys are telling you the truth or not?

Congrats on the new ride and welcome!
My opinion on the oil change is to leave it alone for now. The first change is supposed to happen at 500 miles. I'd wait till that point and then change the oil and filter. If you are handy with the tools, you can do it yourself in about an hour or so.
I have the same sled, but do not yet have an opinion on the floats... (I bought it used in August)
If you are planning to stud the track, do a search on updating the tunnel protectors and adding protection to the rear heat exchanger area.
If it were mine I'd check the track and ski alignment before hitting the trails. Also think about which runners or skis to help with any darting.

If it were me I would let it warm up good and then change the oil only for piece of mind on a brand new sled and leave the filter- I only change filter every other season. Not a bad job but find the post on here and follow the instructions. Congrats!

You will be find change oil & filter after you get 500 miles on it I believe that the oil from the factory may have some break in additives in the oil

With only 12 miles, the carbides and ski bottoms should be near mint...if they're worn, then I'd question the mileage. Same can be said about slider wear. You can look at the hand grips too. They too should look near mint.
Where are these scratches you speak of?
