2022 Mach Z

;)
Its so weird to me that skidoo is now the reliable sled compared to Yamaha. My Apex and every other Yamaha I owned was so dead-nuts reliable all the time. The etecs were always burning down and I just went about my business for thousands and thousands of trouble free miles! I love everything about my new Sidewinder as far as handling, performance, etc but I sure don’t have the confidence in it like I did my Apex as far as reliability.

There’s actually a lot of the Cat DNA that’s great. The chassis works 10X better than my Apex, the controls feel better, warmers work better, I love the way the panels come off, battery under the seat is so much better etc. But damn, the chain case and axle problems are just so Un Yamaha like! I’m surprised they have put up with it this long based on how reliable their products usually are.
Well said vice108
The sidewinder is 10x better, I was on a apex since 07, never left me stranded but I did spend hundreds of hours working on the apexes since 07... idler wheel problems, rear shock wire breaking problems, heated grips never work that great, exup cable’s broke on mine, exhaust donuts just to name a few..
On my SW I added the BOP wedge and better top gear bushing, 4500km of smiles.. best part is I don’t have to add after market products to get warm toasty hands ;)..

It is weird for sure. As far as reliability goes all my comments are based on Doo's 4 strokes. I wouldn't touch any 2 strokes from any manufacturer.

Rear Suspension Bushings as well. Ya, they were definitely NOT perfect, by any means. The Nytro had its issues as well.

The head brass at Yamaha could just hire all the posters here for product design and quality control.
Then fire whoever is in charge of designing and engineering the current and past sleds.

Put Rockerdan and Knappattack in charge of snowmobile production for Yamaha and then you would have a production sled that won’t need a ton of fixes.

Agree Knapp really should be somewhere very high up in the Clutching Dept! All the clutching issues would be gone forever.

Ok I gotta ask...In all seriousness, what the heck is going on Joe? You always post like a madman with crazy replies on DT constantly, and all the sudden you come here to TY posting a ton. I have not seen any recent posts on DT. Did something happen over there?

Yep. I had it out with our mutual friend. It was just a matter of time but I really got tired of his Bull Crap and you know I can't control myself. LOL!
Who are you dealing with now that Don is out? More and more dealers are shutting down. The only Cat dealer around is JanCen.

I know this is a Yamaha forum but the title of this thread is about a 22 Ski Doo so I hope guys don't take any of my posts as a bash toward Yamaha.
One thing nobody mentions are the suspension changes on the Doo in 21. My wife has a 21 and honestly it rides and handles significantly better than my 19. I felt my 19 felt much lighter than my Winder and my wife's 21 makes my 19 feel like a tank. The steering is so much lighter yet it turns better and has a much smaller turning radius than my 19. Her 21 feels like it has power steering and I'm sure if the Winder comes with PS next season it will be a huge plus.
Yamaha needs to do some design changes on their sleds. They need new clutches. Every time I ride with my nephew I just can't get over how noisy the primary is. The whole drive train also needs a remake and I don't think Cat is going to do anything so Yamaha needs to step up and do it.
I wish Yamaha would just buy out Cat and come out with a Yamaha designed sled with Yamaha reliability.
It's not the clutch, its the harmonics of the 3 cylinder engine the way it fires creating the noise , there are only a handfull of issues that needs to be fixed and it's the best handling sled on the market

You should be head of the engineering department and quality control at Yamaha Dan.

Put a high quality clutch on these and the noise is all but gone. The new team is in fact very quiet, I had a 17 9000 here recently with that new clutch. Pleasing to the ear.

Back on topic next winter with Mach coming out is going to be a blast. Handful of doo buddies who haven’t cared about speed in years, specifically since the winder came out are all ordering Mach Z. The marketing is working well. All of the guys I know except a guy that has a 900t universally hate how it works. The get used to it throttle response was a deal breaker until now. After doing BOP wedge, welding tensioner and a new gear with seasonal oil change and running MS16 I have been kind of mean to the doo crew. Being able to lift your skiis off the trail when guy on an 850 is hiding behind his windshield on a top speed run made for bruised egos I guess. I did all my chassis upgrades myself but I am pretty sure doo guys are going to need help from a drivetrain engineer to undo the lag and surge caused by a foot long intake tract after a single throttle body. The electronic throttle with an accelerated opening rate vs what your thumb is doing is a half assed fix attempt I think. Naysayers should look up Luke Lesters video of him standing beside a 900t blipping the throttle wide open to the bar on it three times in a row and it doesn’t move until the engine can’t shed the boost and it moves ahead a bit. Hint, don’t try this with your winder unless your on it. I personally think it has factory anti lag because it won’t get out of the hole like a proper performance oriented engine with individual throttle bodies jammed against the intake valves?? I am hopeful it’s competitive for sure though it’s going to be fun. As far as tuned though could you guys way smarter than me with this stuff chime in and talk about the fact it has a tiny cylinder head and a very small turbo? What kind of potential does the revamped engine have in it. Rumours abound about the blocks distorting if you crank them up too hard too. That hasn’t been an issue for us, my sons MS17 winder is over 24,000 brutal kms without a hiccup except for faulty 3bar that had us confuddled for a while

HAHA...No way! God he is such an AZZ. Long time ago I put him on IGNORE, so I never see his crap anymore, life is good that way.lol

I actually just talked to DG today. Yeah no longer a dealer but he is still there with lots of other sled parts ect...Were yakking about prices on new DOOs and he wants a LYNX. That is one killer sled.

Only one place to buy sleds if you want to save big money. NY here locally is bad, all very high. near 2grand cheaper for same sled in Michigan.

Just spoke today with Grace Perf....Just across from Sarnia Canada(North of Detroit), and only 3hr drive for me. Well worth the savings for me.
