-30c starting issue (Code 43)

No need to buy relays or do to much worrying. Been dealing with this since 06 with Apex's.

Just carry a hot hands pack that ready. hold on relays for a few seconds and click. Your good to go.
Have done this many times and never had a issue with stating since.
Good idea but Yamaha fixed the Apex with the red solid state relay replacement. Nobody even thinks about relay anymore.

Yep. And until they fix the Vipers and Winders relays. I will be keeping my hot hands packs handy. Lol.

-30c sled started no problem. Warmed it up from -24c to 50c. Shut it down while my doo buddies boosted theirs. Went to start it again and I had no power to my dash due to condensation freezing in my main relay. Long story short I had to remove the relays and warm them up. They are located in the fuse compartment. Just an FYI
I didn't start this thread to complain, just to provide info to help others who may experience the same thing.

Sorry but I had a little laugh when I read this. Was in Cochrane and -37 and the Yamaha and cat 4 strokes were the only sleds that started. 4 doos and 2 poos would not turn over at all. Cold is cold folks!!! Be prepared for days like that. Dropping a relay in is much better than pissing all over your nice new machines engine so you can get it to start(true story) Gave new meaning to doo yellow!!!! I know these are extreme cold machines but that is exceptionally cold and condensation can happen anywhere on your machine in weather like that. Do yourselves a favour and go buy a tube of Di-electric grease and pull every electrical coupling and put some grease in it. Do the same for the fuses. Used to have issues like that but never after doing this method.

It's not the starting, it's turning off after a cold start. This thread should make guys aware of the problem so they don't do it. If you pull it off the trailer leave it running.

The hot hands work fine, but if you're going to the trouble of pulling them anyways, why wait? Just have warm ones ready to go for that time it happens. Swap them out. Thankfully the new SW plastics make it easy enough but I'm sure the "fuse panel relocation from nose to side" thread will be starting pretty soon.

my point exactly. be prepared!!! Quick simple solutions often are best!

Just had this condition yesterday in Chapleau, ON. We parked outside the hotel for the evening after 225 miles ridden. Was with an 800 Doo and wanted to show that owner how easy a Yamaha starts at -27. I cranked it over and it slowly complied and fired right up! I let it run to heat up 150F. Shut it down and went into hotel for a shitty breakfast. Came back out to leave and found sled would start but no gauges, accessory power, reverse, etc. But, motor ran like a clock!

Sounds like there might be something to the condensation thing and should just start it and let it run.

I was not aware of this problem and simply started and stopped machine a few times, and just due to dumb luck, problem resolved itself and never saw condition again in 600 more miles.

I did NOT tell the Doo guy what took me so long get going. After all, he had to get a jump from a vehicle at the hotel. Ha!

I had no dash but it would turn over and not fire. It is worth everyone pulling the relays as beneath them is written what they control. Once I pulled them I knew right away what was going on from the apex and nytro history.

-32 QUEBEC , 4 Sidewinders , any of the following issues , no dash , no crank , no fuel pump, no start , no lites , Warm all relays , good to go ! They must of tested only to -30 lol
Hey, Hey, one out those four did start but with no dash and lights until it warmed up.
I was just thinking maybe some "pepper corn sauce" would of worked instead of removing and warming up (inside joke) LMAFO How's it going ? What the heck u been up to ?
FYI Hearst yesterday -37 Celsius she fired right up no issues with relays, hopefully that continues.

Was in duville Friday night, group next to us didn't want to pay the extra $10 per sled and park in the heated garage, Saturday morning sidewinder wouldn't start, they pulled it in the garage and after hours of heating things with a blow dryer it finally started, I know it took that long because I was in there repairing a blown jack shaft bearing on a buddy's 2017 Polaris, which happened Friday night, so lucky it happened right on the road...

If ever in this situation all you need to do is remove the relays bring them inside to a heater for 5min and you'll be good to go gauranteed, did it for a guy in Hearst 5min later he was up and running. Just take a picture of the relays before unplugging them then reinstall them in the same order. Don't forget to plug the dash back in FYI.
-37 degree celcious that morning

Wasn't my sled or my group to get involved in, they had enough hands in there to begin with lol... I do know they warmed up the relays for some time, sled would start for a second than stall the whole morning... was also -35 over night in duville

During my trip up north I experienced a code 43 and no engine start on the last morning ( -26c).

immediately I went back to my apex days and thought about frozen relays. These sleds have a integrated relay / fuse boxes.

After removing the hood and finding the fuse box. its right in the nose. I checked the fuse ( all good) so I assumed one of the relays in the box was for the fuel pump.

I did not have access to any power for a heat gun or hair dryer. SO the only thing I could do was cup my hand around the fuse box and blow hot air through it. Quickly put the hood back on and turned the key. Fired right up. As one of my sledin budys said " finally you used your hot air for something useful" (as*hole).

Hopefully this wont become a common thing but at least we have a fix.
