I lost half power and at idle it pops now and then. I looked at the belt all looks good. I have to give it full gas to get it going. I shut it down today after that. Ran like a raped ape yesterday. I called the yamaha shop here around here, and they told me the plugs are bad. Change them and then all would be good. Why am I going though plugs as often as I am?

I will venture a guess that this is about a 2000 Vmax?????
If so there are a few things to check like plug caps, wires, dirty carbs and the stator output.

I've done pretty much all but check stator output. Please explain how to do that thanks.
Oh boy. Its been a long time since I've tested a stator. My 97 sx 700 went thru 2 of them.
I know there are a few threads on the 2smoke side dealing with stators. You may spend sometime searching but they are there.

Your pilot jets need to be completely cleaned. If you left the gas in your tank/carbs over the off season you've got the typical "jungle rot" from modern day's fuel separation and turning into gunk that has plugged your pilot jets. The orifices in those pilot jets are pretty tiny and it doesn't take much gunk to cause the problems that you've described.

First I would start with a complete carb clean ... completely disassemble.... also check the reed valves to make sure one isn't broke and make sure they all seal good....I would also do a leak down test you may have a bad main seal ...

I have cleaned carbs on a rider lawn mower, a snowblower, 3 sleds with 3 more on the way already this week.
The "jungle rot" my buddy VX1R talks about is true.....todays fuel is horrible and will gum up pilot jets instantly if you don't get that stuff out of the float bowls. Only takes a piece of dirt to kill a two stroke sled....

You might also verify that the enrichner is not hanging in the on position, not closing all the way . Not sure if this applies to an SRX but it was a problem with my SX.I lost half power and at idle it pops now and then. I looked at the belt all looks good. I have to give it full gas to get it going. Unplug TORS at carburetor and try avian. It might be the TORS switch on the carbs.

Clean the carbs and install new Pilot Jets. They are "dirt" cheap. Bet that is your problem.

It's called combinations!! Get it, ok first off most people run regular #*$&@ gas, this crap sitting in your tank and carbs over summer or any length more than 2 months will fudge up any machine ok? So lets start from a sensible point of view, pull your carbs. if you have never tackled this get it to someone who knows what they are doing, complete disassembly of the internals and a soaking in the proper cleaner. Next check you plug caps if they are originals get rid of them and put some new ones on cheap replacement and will surprise you on how the engine can run. Next of course the plugs, run what brand you want NGK,CHAMP. etc. they are all good. Now the best part is when you get your carbs. done and all the floats are even and the air screws are set to factory spec. because these are very important to be at where they are recommended ,YES. Now get the carbs. back on and when the settings are proper for the throttle gap at the lever and rpm and oil pump cable measurement set, you are now ready to go. This sled should kick #*$&@ like all YAMAHAS'
