AEM vs ECU Wideband

I see Hurricane and TD offer both of these with the ECU one being ~$75 higher. Any reason to spend the extra money? TD has the AEM one in stock so I'll probably go with that unless there is a reason to spend the extra cash. I run Hurricane tunes, but I assume this is the same between TD and Hurricane. (hurricane is out of stock for the AEM)

The ECU Master unit is requiredif you plan to run closed loop. If not, save the $75.

AEM also works for closed loop.

Both companies specify the ECU Master on their websites. Is the AEM plug and play?

AEM is plug and play if purchased from one of the tuners and activated in the ECU yes.
We have lots of Hurricane sleds running closed loop on the AEM just fine. I know GAP was having a hide time keeping them in stock last season with the introduction of the closed loop, so the tuners started looking for alternatives to keep up with the demand. May be where the other one came into play. I've only seen and used the AEM version myself for me and the people I've setup with the closed loop setup.

If you are tuned with GAP and want to use WB CL... Then you will need to use the GAP AEM X-series that has been flashed to OBDII..... This is what the AC CANbus uses for network protocols.
You just can't use a AEM 30-0310 WB controller from AEM and run GAP CL.... AEM CANbus is AEMnet which is proprietary to AEM....and the ECU will not communicate the protocols....
The only component that you can use not from GAP is the actual WB sensor.... Which is cheap on Amazon... AEM uses the Bosch 4.9LSU sensor.
The ECU MASTER I am not familiar with the CAN bus protocol flashing.... Whether it's their own proprietary network or industry OBDII...

I had the GAP AEM go bad and I just bought a replacement AEM 30-0310 controller off from Amazon, cut the ends of the GAP one off and reconnected to the new one and it works fine with my closed loop as well. Data logger shows it adjusting just as it should. Perhaps it comes flashed to a OBDII already?

All I know is the off the shelf controller (also came with a new sensor) worked just fine for me once I swaped the ends out to it with no special programing.

Wow... That is strange... because the off the shelf AEM utilizes AEMnet protocol.... AEM wouldn't provide the flashing program for me to flash over to OBDII..... Consider the Amazon purchase a lottery win.
When I spoke with Patrick from GAP he says that they flash all the controllers to OBDII from AEM....due to the incompatible protocols... You lucked out... AEM does offer OBDII protocol, but I was made aware from AEM when I contacted them that this particular controller is AEMnet...
Are the controller part numbers /versions the same?

Well.... When I spoke with AEM, the engineer I spoke with was pretty explicit that this controller is specifically AEMnet protocol for data communications with their own fueling management systems, the other output is analog for either a gauge signal or other A to D converters for ECU data.
I know our protocol is OBDII.... So... I don't know what to say.... But...you got lucky.... GAP CL is on CAN bus.... Just doesn't make sense....

That is plugged into the diagnostic harness plug, located by the chaincase, it will have a cap on it, remove and insert.
