Just did the exact thing, I used the uhlmer instructions for the k&n kit. Basically "move to the side" the instrument panel, headlight assembly, and steering shaft. Three hoses and the air sensor need to be disconnected from the box, 2 small bolts hold it to the frame up front, then just pull out. I didn't loosen my carb clamps to take off or put on, it's a 4mm ball nosed Allen if you want to. After you do it once it's an easy job!

Where did you find the ulmer instructions? I am not sure about the steering post.

once its out you wont want to put it back in either! so much room under there with the 3 K&N filters!

Remove two nuts at the steering gate, then slide the keeper holding the steering post bushing out. At the bottom remove the drag link bar connecting it to the tie rod assembly, then the two nuts on the steering block and pull assembly up of the threaded studs. Leave everything connected to the handlebars and just lay to the side.
