I think Cannondale27 did a similar ride last season. Something like 900 miles. Up thru Tomahawk because I’m not 100% sure but I think it would be a long route going St Germain/Eagle River side up to Hurley. Staying along 51 is the better route. Maybe he will see this and chime in.

There really isn’t a good way to get to Tomahawk from Antigo. My place is just north of Merrill on 17 and most are ATV trails which makes for a lot of road riding, which sucks. I usually trailer into Tomahawk and can get anywhere I need from there. Willow Flowage side heading north west out of Tomahawk was good last year. I just avoid anything toward Rhinelander or Eagle River. Staying to the west of Minocqua is probably best but fuel is scarce.

We have a place west of Merrill on M. Tough to get anywhere from there.

The fastest way is Kempster to Parish trail 16 then through the Harrison Hills to trail D to lake Alice. Bottoms up bar for a pee brake and refreshments maybe lunch. From there 49A north to 51C to trail 8 this dead ends into the Bearskin trail 51. Now you can make up some time flying into Minocqua.
I think it’s #10 trail that cuts up to #17 trail north to the casino. Cheap food, expensive fun and bad gas. Don’t get fuel here. I don’t bother stopping and stay on #17 right into Mercer. Now stop for gas and more refreshments, your almost there.....easy peazzy stay on 17 right into Hurley or if you have time detour over to Bear chasers on Island lake, awsome place.
Don’t worry about time, the first treck of your journey will be slower going. It will seem like your way behind schedule. Once you hit the Bearskin average time will be 3 hours taking it easy to Hurley.
That’s a great day ride, enjoy!
Cheers, CM

If you get out west of minouqua the trails are awesome but wind around. If you go the pike lake route it will take considerably longer. If you cut through any trails on the reservation other than #17 they will all be plowed roads.

I avoid bearskin like the plague. When 8 ends and bearskin starts, I usually take that bumpy bearskin as far as old K and head west back toward 51 and gas up at the north woods store. Head to the west side of 51, usually to see Fuzzy over at Moran’s Landing on swamp lake for a swamp water, then head up toward Willow Flowage. Much better trails even though it winds around.

Sorry not sure of the mileage.

Actually the Bearskin is groomed daily and has been good during daylight hours in the past few years. It’s way to boring of a ride got me, I absolutely agree that the Willow are trails have been awsome these past few years!!!
I actually live VERY close to the G-spot (north woods store). If you go the willow area way you will have some great riding! Trails are the best around!! Trail 7 to 10A to 10!!! You will be in Pike lake with smiles! The only problem is north of Pike it’s a long road, trail #21 to Springstead :(
Cutting through on any trails east of Pike lake to 17 trail will all be plowed roads on the reservation. It’s like the plow truck drivers on the res know it’s a trail and purposely plow down to the gravel. They hate us!! Avoid them like the plague.
Tack on some extra hours going this way 4 sure.

I don’t pay much attention to mileage. You can ride rail beds and do 250 miles like it’s nothing, or ride all side trails 250 miles and your Totally shot.

ClutchMaster- your in the same neck of the woods as my old stomping ground. Used to have a place on Oneida Lake directly across from Alpine. Miss being there for them trails. Down by Merrill sucks with all the ATV trails and running roads. I hear what your saying about the roads being plowed down to gravel heading toward Swamp Lake. I always wondered why they never left us anything to ride on. Hit over by St Germain at the end of last season. Parked in Lake Tomahawk and my two boys and I rode that area when everything south was steady closing due to rain. That was some good riding there too. I might have to make the trip to Hurley by sled this year. My brother has been wanting to make a loop up thru the UP and back. This may be the year for it.

Easy ride. North to Pelican Lake, Rhinelander to Lake Tomahawk, Trail follows Hwy 47 the rest of the way. About 125 miles, you will be there for the ballet.

Ok but I live on this route and have ridden it dozens of times over the last 50 years. It really is around 120 miles the direct route but who is in a hurry anyway.

Not much left in Kempster. Bar, gas pump, post office combination closed about 20 years ago. One small church and a few houses are now left. Under 10 miles gets you to Elcho. Five miles to Pelican Lake and about 15 more gets you to Rhinelander.
